Slash has also been busy with his new production company Slasher Films. When we interviewed the former Guns N’ Roses and current Velvet Revolver guitarist not long ago–you can read the full interview here–it seemed only fitting to get Slash to give us his top five horror movies. Here’s what he came up with.

Let the Right One in
“It’s a vampire movie that’s just one of the best horror movies I’ve seen in a long time.”

The Strangers
“I just happened on that, you know, on satellite, I guess it was, flipping through the movie channels. I had never heard of it, and I think it was probably Liv Tyler that made me catch it. You know, it’s like, we’ve known her for a while. And I was like, Ah, this movie of hers I’ve never seen. And it was just about to start, so we watched, and Perla, my wife, and I were just in bed, you know, middle of the night. And fuck, it was one of the scariest movies I’ve seen in ages.

”

The Omen
“The Omen is probably my all-time top favorite horror movie. It’s just really well written. It’s the kind of movie that sort of is a huge catalyst in what Slasher Films is all about: character driven, psychologically, genuinely scary movies, not–contrary to the name of the company–not slasher movies, not mindless dismemberment movies. Which are great to an extent, but it’s become, like, the norm for the genre now. And it’s got pretty old, you know?”

Night of the Living Dead
“When I was a kid I saw that at a drive-through with my mom, it scared the shit out of me. And that one, you know, all things considered, has had the biggest influence on what we consider slasher movies now, sort of gore movies. But being in black and white, and just the whole original concept, it was really unnerving.”

Frankenstein
“Boris Karloff is great and it’s obviously one of the classic horror stories of all time. But it was just really well done. And the moodiness of it in the town, the atmosphere of the locale is fantastic. But all the characters are great. And it’s just got that creepy old feel that still just stands the test of time.”

Canadian metallers 3 Inches of Blood will be dropping their new album, Long Live Heavy Metal, on March 27. The record is the band’s follow-up to 2009′s Here Waits Thy Doom.

“Long Live Heavy Metal is the fifth chapter in the book of 3 Inches of Blood, and we couldn’t be more pleased and proud of our new onslaught of honest heavy metal,” says guitarist Justin Hagberg.

Vocalist Cam Pipes has similar feelings about the quality and significance of the record. “When a band is releasing a new record, they often speak about it being their most important work or best album to date,” says Pipes. “Regardless of how clichéd either statement may sound, I think we would say both apply to this album. All of us have a special feeling about this one. We’re more committed than ever to the cause of real, honest, no-bullshit heavy metal. No trends, no fucking around!”

3 Inches of Blood will be heading out on the Metal Alliance tour–beginning in March–with DevilDriver, Dying Fetus, the Faceless, Job for a Cowboy, Impending Doom, and Wretched. Dates below.

The self-titled record, which was produced by Peter Collins (Rush, Queensrÿche), will be available on March 27. You can view the track listing below the clip. The band also features keyboardist Neal Morse (Transatlantic, Spock’s Beard), bassist Dave LaRue (Dixie Dregs), and vocalist Casey McPherson (Alpha Rev, Endochine).

“This album has bits and pieces of what you’d expect from each of us,” says Portnoy. “However, the sum of all its parts led to brand new, unchartered territory for all involved. Working with this dream lineup was everything I hoped it would be…on both a musical and personal level. I can’t wait to play live!”

Neal Morse added: “What an amazing group of musicians…I am thrilled to be a part of this unique, diverse and dazzling album.”

Singer McPherson expanded on the style of the album. “This record is filled with trial and triumph. Raw and delicate songs alike amidst the swirling and daring orchestration of Steve, Neal, Mike and Dave. It’s been such an inspiring challenge melding folk, prog, pop, and metal all into one big recording.”

The recording process–which occurred over just nine days last year–proved an interesting challenge, says LaRue. “It was quite an experience–the band moved at a fast pace, ideas flying around the room at all times. Sections of tunes were arranged, then re-arranged, ideas were tried every which way until we made them work, or, in some cases, discarded them altogether. Just keeping track of everything was a challenge!”

You can watch an EPK, of the band discussing the project, below.
