According to the newspaper La Crónica de Hoy, more than 1,000 music fans clashed in front of the Government Palace in Querétaro, Mexico, last Friday. The melee was allegedly instigated by metalheads and “skate-punks” who were lashing out at the emo fans who use the spot as a regular hangout. Three people were injured, 28 arrested (22 of whom were minors). One individual was almost lynched. Authority figures fear more outbreaks in Mexico’s larger cities. They’ve reportedly traced the beginnings of the conflict to a web campaign portraying emo fans as “homosexual” and giving a “bad image” to tourists. View a Spanish-language television report below.
