If there's anyone who can successfully resurrect the Alien franchise, it's Fede Alvarez (Evil Dead, Don't Breathe). The Uruguayan horror director is attempting to do just that with his new movie, Alien: Romulus, the teaser trailer for which dropped on the internet today.
Judging from the tension-filled, minute-long clip, Alvarez is bringing back all the claustrophobic terror of the Ridley Scott-helmed original. Face Huggers and the Xenomorph run amok, and we get glimpses of our surely mostly doomed main characters.
Cailee Spaeny (The Craft: Legacy, Pacific Rim Uprising) leads the cast, which also features Isabela Merced, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn and Aileen Wu.
Alien: Romulus takes place in between the classic first two films in the series, Alien and James Cameron's Aliens. Fede Alvarez co-wrote the script with Rodo Sayagues (Evil Dead) with Ridley Scott producing. The official synopsis reads: "While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe."
Alien: Romulus will be released in theaters only on August 16th.
