 REVOLVER Magazine's first-ever tattoo issue is on newsstands now, featuring a striking cover image of Slayer’s Kerry King and his legendary Paul Booth-inked head tattoo. King is pictured with blood dripping from his head onto his shoulders, an homage to Slayer’s “Raining Blood.”  The March/April 2010 issue, which is also available for purchase at Revolver's online store, features “The History Of Tattoos In Hard Rock,” an in-depth feature by writer Christopher R. Weingarten exploring when tattoos first became rock staples, how they have evolved, and their future. Interview subjects include King, Booth, Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington, L.A. Ink’s Kat Von D, Mötley Crüe’s and Methods of Mayhem's Tommy Lee, original rock star tattooist Lyle Tuttle and many others. The story also features sidebar pieces on the “The Hottest Female Tattoo Artists,” “The Most Ridiculous Rocker Tattoo Fails,” “How to Get Your First Tattoo,” “The Most Painful Spots to Get Tattooed,” and more.
 
The Revolver tattoo issue--which will only be available on newsstands and in stores from March 2 to May 10--includes a free temporary tattoo featuring an exclusive design by Booth (pictured below).

"I guess you could look at it two ways: You could make fun of me for making a temporary tattoo—or you could think about the fact that I’m getting to your children. And you know, I’m all about fucking up the heads of little children," says Booth. Of the design, he explains, "I wanted to do something that related to Kerry’s head and Slayer, and this design on the temporary tattoo was actually Design 2 of two set designs I gave Slayer for their stage show. We never used this one but I’ve been staring at it for years and finally this opportunity came up to do something cool with it."

Booth continues, speaking of Revolver's tattoo issue in general: "Not only am I thrilled that Revolver is supporting the tattoo industry, but they really dialed it in. The information is solid, they did their research; it’s not like paparazzi bullshit where it’s all bubblegum. It’s a good read. I’ve been in the business for 21 years, and Revolver is the one magazine I’ve dealt with where I don’t feel like I have to read the shit before it’s printed."

REVOLVER Editor In Chief Brandon Geist gives his perspective on the magazine’s first tattoo issue:

“Tattoos may be more mainstream than ever, but they still stand as symbols of personal independence and rebellion; as such, they are a major part of the hard-rock and metal lifestyle. Revolver’s regular ‘Inkspot’ column, in which we talk to band members about their tattoos, has always been one of our most popular sections, and I really wanted to expand that into an in-depth feature. As I thought about how to do this, I realized that I didn’t really know when or how tattoos and hard rock have become so intertwined, and I felt like there was a great story to tell there. We’re honored to have artists like Paul Booth, Kat Von D, Thomas Hooper, Dan Smith, and Lyle Tuttle, as well as rockers from Kerry King to Chester Bennington, help us tell that story. And we’re totally stoked that Booth agreed to design an exclusive temporary tattoo for us to include in the magazine. People wait as long as two-and-a-half years to get inked by him, so picking up this issue is definitively the quickest and cheapest way to finally get a Booth on your skin.”
