kottonmouth-kings_1.jpg

Rap fusionists Kottonmouth Kings put out their 12th studio album, Sunrise Sessions (Suburban Noize), earlier this year. You can hear a special rock remix of one of the songs, "Down 4 Life," which features (hed)P.E.'s Jared Gomes below. It will be featured on their new album, Hidden Stash 5: Bong Loads & B-Sides, which will come out November 8. The Kings' Daddy X fills us in on it below. Let us know what you think of it in the comments.

REVOLVER What's this song about?
DADDY X
"Down 4 Life" is a track that features Jared from (Hed)p.e. He is a labelmate of ours on Suburban Noize Records, a radical revolutionary figure and true freedom fighter. "Down 4 Life" is just a song about commitment and sacrifice to the underground movement that we are a part of and helped create. It is a song about going all out, loyalty and dedication. It is a song about our experience traveling across the land and having so many experiences on this journey as a renegade underground group. What a long strange trip it has been...

What was the inspiration to do this remix?
The track came first; it had a real aggressive feel. It evolved from that and we wanted to collaborate with Jared from (Hed)p.e., and this felt like the right track. We have done a couple remixes of the track, including a real heavy guitar-driven version that really captures the energy and magnitude of the track. It is great to be able to musically interpret a track different ways via remix.

Was this an easy song to write?
The song came together in stages, but the initial idea came pretty smoothly. The tricky part was Johnny Richter [from Kottonmouth Kings] was on a solo tour and we needed his parts. He actually went to Jared's studio in Idaho and they recorded their parts together there and sent them back to us in our California studio. Technology is amazing and arranging the song was a little tricky putting all of the pieces of the puzzle together, but in the end it all worked out. It was one of the last tracks that we did, but I am happy we kept pushing and "Down 4 Life".

What sort of feedback have you gotten on this song so far?
Our fans really connect to this song due to their deep commitment to the group. We are doing a whole campaign around the track with Tattoo Magazine. Fans are sending in their KMK tats. We have received thousands of pics from fans that are "Down 4 Life." It has been pretty mind-blowing. We are fortunate enough that the Kottonmouth Kings really connect with people from all walks of life. We are blessed to still be making music, 15 years and going strong.

like-moths-to-flames_1.jpg

Deathcore group Like Moths to Flames are releasing their latest album, When We Don't Exist (Rise), on November 8. But you can hear the song "GNF" from the album right here. Guitarist Zach Huston fills us in on the song below. Let us know what you think of it in the comments.

REVOLVER What's this song about?
ZACH HUSTON The context of the song is pretty broad. It's basically just about not caring and not letting pointless things in life get to you.

What part of the song did you write first?
Guitars came first. We basically just wanted to write a heavier and more aggressive song than our usual sound. It is definitely the heaviest, and darkest song we've written as a band yet.

Was it easy to write?
This song actually came along relatively fast and went very smoothly. It was the second song we had written for the new record. We were very excited to write alittle more dark and heavy for this one.

How has the feedback been for the song so far?
So far the feedback on this particular track has been great. We had played it on the last tour we did before heading to the studio and the response was great. It is definitely our heavy hitter so we hope kids will dig it!
