Pantera bassist Rex Brown has shared the first single from his solo effort, "Crossing Lines." The track is taken from his debut album, 'Smoke on This…,' which is due on July 28 via Entertainment One Music (eOne Music). "Crossing Lines" can be heard below.

The album can be pre-ordered in various formats here and here. Those who pre-order 'Smoke on This…' will received "Crossing Lines" as an instant download.

Discussing the album in a statement, Brown explained: "We're not going to necessarily cater to metal fans, but the guys who grew up with Pantera, a lot of them love all the same stuff that I grew up on, too. This is just something else I'm doing for fun, man. And musical Freedom. Fun has to come into it or I'm not going to do it. I've had a tremendous career and now I feel like I'm thirty years old again. This has given me that freedom I needed."

The 11-track effort will feature a song about the death of Pantera guitarist and Brown's longtime bandmate, Dimebag Darrell. Speaking of Darrell's death and the song, which is titled "Buried Alive," Brown said: "I drowned myself in cases of whiskey after he died. I was drowning in that black water and I had to find me, ya' know? It's one of those songs that really kind of just came out. 'You're on your own now, Jack. What're you gonna do?' The whole record is really cathartic." Conversely, "What Comes Around Goes Around" could be about "your mailman, your neighbor, or your wife. It's saying, 'you made your bed, lay in it. I'm clean on my side of the street, how's your's going."

More information on the album is available here.

San Antonio, Texas-based blackened hardcore group Illustrations will release their new album, 'Acts of God,' on May 26. In anticipation, the band has teamed up with Revolver to premiere their new song, "The Killing Field." Check it out below and let us know what you think in the comments!

Frontman Matt King said, "'The Killing Field' is a song about the masochistic acceptance of eternal suffering and embracing the pain that comes with existence. Living with nostalgia and regret can become torturous. Any form of escape, such as the idea of a higher power, becomes difficult to grasp onto, creating internal aggression and hopelessness. We lose faith in 'God,' the government, humanity and everything in between, but finding faith in ourselves is what allows us to move past the negativity and manifest change in our world."

Illustrations' record release show will take place on May 27 at The Mohawk in Austin, Texas with The Dillinger Escape Plan.

Vocalist (who also directed the clip) Sera Timms said, "Around the time of writing the treatment for the video I had recently discovered and fallen in love with a local mausoleum built in the '20s, full of marble and stained glass. I also wanted to combine a mundane experience with a ritual experience to weave modern and ancient or symbolic planes together.

"The woman I got to play the character of 'The Maiden' is our drummer's girlfriend, Lindsay. And the Director of Photography is our friend Brian Sowell, who also plays in the band Buried at Sea. While filming we discovered that the largest urn on the central stairway belonged to Sarah Lindsay, and the largest tomb belonged to the architect, who had the last name Bryan. So me, my actress and DP were symbolically already housed in this mausoleum. As usual, we had to shoot guerilla style (without proper permits due to astronomical Los Angeles location fees) which was very challenging, but the synchronistic alignments always remind me that there is a design above the status quo which always supports the artist, the rebel and the outsider."
