This installment is the premiere of “Atonement,” a song on metalcore group Silent Civilian’s new album, Ghost Stories (Century Media)—out May 18. Frontman Jonny Santos, also of nu-metal titans Spineshank, fills us in on the song.
“The song ‘Atonement’ is basically about being cast away by someone you respect, love, and hold in high regards. Lost loyalty, yet still holding on to what was once true. I was lyrically inspired by someone whom I loved and adored, but whom was too swayed by the next-door neighbor’s lawn instead of watering their own. People need to think twice before making decisions they will regret for years to come. We play the song live and it has been met with nothing but praise. It’s a combination of tragedy and violence. It differs from the rest of the album in the sense of being more of melodic, yet shows how the band has grown adhering to no boundaries. This is atonement.”

I been a Spineshank for awhile now and SC also since the first demos were released,I been in the video for “Rebirth of the temple” if anybody wants to know I’m in the beginning and the guy with the Slipknot shirt haha I been friends with Jonny and the original memebers and fill ins,can’t wait for this record to release,FUCK YEAH!!

Good song, but doesn’t compare to some of their other stuff. Ghost Stories kills this song for sure. I like it better when they stray from the repetitive hardcore mix every other band seems to be doing. I like to see Silent Civilian actually using skill instead of break downs throughout the entire song. Rebirth of the Temple was the shit.

I’ve heard a lot of the new Spineshank demos and they totally blow this song out of the water. It’s a cool sounding song(very radio friendly), however, Santos with Spineshank sounds so much better. The demos are awesome
