Did you hear the one about the guy from Autopsy and the comedian? No?

Well, it's not a joke. Autopsy founder Chris Reifert has joined forces with comedian Dave Hill to form Painted Doll, a psych garage project that more closely resembles the 13th Floor Elevators or Blue Öyster Cult than it does Scream Bloody Gore or Mental Funeral. Completed after an encounter at Housecore Horror Fest, several email exchanges, and a corresponding recording session at Nuthouse Recording in Hoboken, New Jersey, the new project was born. So how the hell did this all happen? Read on, and listen to Painted Doll's new track "Hidden Hand" below.

From Dave Hill:
"Chris and I met when Autopsy played at the Housecore Horror Film Festival a couple years ago in San Antonio. We hit it off instantly and ended up seeing Goblin together later that night. We kept in touch and kept trading music we were into, mostly obscure psych stuff from the 60s and 70s, and hung out some more whenever I'd come to the Bay Area do comedy shows, which is where Chris first saw me play guitar. Eventually we decided to jam and would get together to play whenever I was in Los Angeles doing TV stuff. Neither of us live there, so it was a helluva commute for both of us to get to practice. Next thing I knew, we were talking about recording a 7-inch together, which quickly grew into an EP before we just said 'Fuck it!' and recorded a whole album in three days with Tom Beaujour at Nuthouse Recording in New Jersey. Now we're psyched that the album is coming out, we're playing a few shows in March with one of our favorite bands, Monster Magnet, and we're already gearing up to record album number two!"

From Chris Reifert:
"Everything Dave just stated is accurate. Just don't forget about the part where when we decided to form a band thunder crashed, lightning struck, babies cried, snakes slithered, cats howled and volcanoes erupted. From that point on, there was no turning back. Home demos flew back and forth along with arrows to even more cool and obscure tracks from bands forgotten that should have been heard. We turned the Nuthouse into the Dollhouse, hooked up with Tee Pee Records and have secured live dates on the east and west coasts of the U.S. Now we offer you this album as a postcard from whatever cryptic realm we traveled to in order to channel the Painted Doll sound. Maybe you've been there? And with any luck at all, you'll have half as much fun listening as we did creating."

Order Painted Doll's self-titled debut via Tee Pee Records ahead of it's 2/16 release.
