Hear Wayfarer's Grim, Cinematic New Black-Metal Song "Animal Crown"

Colorado band merges Nordic desolation with American West's high-plains bleakness on track from forthcoming 'World's Blood'

If there were an American equivalent to the lone Viking wandering across the vast snow-covered landscape, that might have been the cowboy, loaded six shooter by his side, riding along the desolate high plains of Colorado. Applying that idea to the cornerstones of black metal, you can revisit Colorado's Warfarer in a new light: a lone gunman, windswept and nearly-frostbitten, encounters his nemesis on an open field. There's a moment of gentlemanly respect as the pair eye each other down, and it's in that micro-eternity that the epic and emotional "Animal Crown" plays within their respective heads. Black metal in the hands of Ennio Morricone, maybe.

"Animal Crown" is the latest off Wayfarer's upcoming Profound Lore release World's Blood. It's epic in that it taps into elemental forces that existed before the world was ground into powder by meme culture: sprawling, beautiful, harsh — and most definitely not to be trifled with. In an age where black metal is completely overexposed and much of it has lost its bite, nuance and obscured beauty, "Animal Crown" reminds us of the genre's latent power.

Profound Lore will release World's Blood on May 25th. Find CD and digital pre-orders here, CD and LP pre-orders here, and iTunes pre-orders here. Read on for the band's upcoming tour dates.
