Extreme-metal forefather Tom G. Warrior (Hellhammer, Celtic Frost, Triptykon) will return to the Roadburn Festival in 2019 for his first appearance in five years and a very specially curated event. Performing with his current band Triptykon, Warrior will be completing the three-part "Requiem," a musical movement begun on Celtic Frost album Into the Pandemonium, with the third piece showing up on the band's swan song, Monotheist.
The missing second fragment remained a mystery until now, as Warrior explains, "The intention to finish the full 'Requiem' remained with me. I was going to do it one distant day with Triptykon, the group I formed to continue to pursue the path I began in Hellhammer and Celtic Frost. It was 2018, yet again 16 years after I last worked on the 'Requiem,' when Walter Hoeijmakers, founder of the legendary Roadburn Festival and one of my most beloved friends, contacted me to propose Roadburn as the venue to perform, at long last, the finished 'Requiem.'"
The piece's live completion will be accompanied by full classical orchestration by the Dutch Metropole Orchesta, a Grammy-winning jazz and pop ensemble that is the largest full-time group of its kind in the world. The program is the second in Roadburn's new "curated bands" program, the first of which happened earlier this year when Waste of Space Orchestra and Vánagandr: Sól án varma were chosen to create unique experiences for the weekend.
