After over two weeks of furious voting that saw over 400,000 ballots cast, the results are in on our Song of the Year readers’ poll, and the winner is…prog-metal upstarts Periphery (pictured above) for their “Make Total Destroy.”

    Periphery is the best metal band to arrive on the scene in about 5 years. By a long shot. They’re completely reshaping the genre, some of the most talented people around and PII was a masterpiece. Every single song on it. A7X hasnt done anything good since their self titled. Papa Roach has one good song and is basically a joke now. BVB is a cancer and group of untalented pretty boys with horrid music. and who is The Pretty Reckless? … Good job Periphery, you earned this award, and all the others you’ve won this year and I hope to see more to come.

    Periphery sounds JUST like every other cookie cutter “metal” band out today. Papa Roach has changed their style multiple times and still makes good music, which is why I give them props. A7x should have won this in all honesty. They’ve changed it up on almost every album times and still remain one of my and many other’s favorite bands. As for BvB, they can fall in a hole and I’ve never even heard of the other guys.

    Bad list, I think. Given, 2012 wasn’t the best year for metal, there was a lot better shit than this. The only song that deserves to be here is Make Total Destroy. A7X made a good song, but it certainly wasn’t one of the Top 5. Here’s MY list of popular metal songs that should have been more recognized.

    1. Periphery – Make Total Destroy
    2. Lamb of God – Ghost Walking
    3. Trivium – Black
    4. Stone Sour – Gone Sovereign/Absolute Zero
    5. Machine Head – Darkness Within

    Mind you, there are better songs overall this year, but this is based off of hit rock/metal songs of the year, and I think that made a far better list than Revolvers. What about you?

    Congrats to the top 5. I am an A7X fan but I am not sad that they did not get 1st spot. I think their song is brilliant but so is all the winners and I don’t know why everyone is hating. In my opinion all the bands are winners, because all their fans got behind them to get them there. I think that is the main thing that we need to think about…but in all honesty we should move past this and go back to loving the thing that brought us here…our music.
