Evanescence Set to Go on Hiatus

After a massive comeback with last year’s self-titled effort — not to mention singer Amy Lee appearing on last year’s cover of our annual Hottest Chicks in Hard Rock issue — it looks like Evanescence will be taking an extended break after their current tour wraps up.

“I haven’t been sitting down to write,” said Lee. “I’m thinking we’ll take a break first. I’m really not sure what I’ll do next. At the end of any really long tour, you need to get your head in order. I think at the end of the run, we’ll go on a break for a while and figure things out.”

She continued, “Taking long breaks is seen as a bad thing, but I don’t think it’s a bad thing. People have the idea that you have to keep putting stuff out while people remember you. But I’d rather make something that’s awesome and then make people remember again.”

Hardcore Evanescence fans likely aren’t worried about the break being permanent, as it took five years between the band’s 2006 album The Open Door and 2011′s Evanescence.

“I hope it doesn’t take five years,” the singer adds. “But I don’t want to put a timeline on it either. We’ll all be doing our own thing for a while.”

But…but. Ugh. Yes, that was quick.

I guess that makes sense why Dark New Day said they may be recording a new album.

I knew it…….Shit pisses me off big time!

After a worldwide tour it was expected that they would take a brake in order to rest! They are people and being in another country everyday must be very exhausting. Their next album may take many years (I believe 3 years) but it’s going to ROCK! Evanescence want to create real music full of passion and emotions, so inspiration is all they need and inspiration comes with no timelines.

Exactly! Someone understands! They are only human (sadly), no matter how god-like they are

………..We Just Get AMY Back and are Now Used to Her Being around and Then She’ll be Gone……….Maybe She’s Gonna have a Baby or 2 –>She’ll Have to Sober up for That….I Love HER………. :) (: ……………………

WTF? this is shit, we all know that she have many troubles with inspiration, the first break was 3 year, then 5 years, now will be 10 year? are you fucking kidding me?

I totally understand the reason behind all this but still this sucks. We just got Evanescence only for them to disappear again. I guess this is why they are named Evanescence…..man this such a downer to my day :(

  • davidc

Evanescence just plain sucks now she is the only remaining member left. they all left because of her and formed a new and far superior band We Are The Fallen

Wow….They will take a 10 year long break and come out with an even crappier album. They’ve taken breaks after each album and the succeeding album has been more awful than the last one.

2006: We’re gonna take a break now kthanxbai
    2011: We’re baaaack!
2012: We’re gonna take another break now.
    >.< Frustrating but they must do what's best for their music. I just hope it doesn't take another 5 freakin' years; I almost lost interest in them last time they took a break.

They took money and go away

I honestly don’t understand why all of you are like “10 year break, more crappy album, blah blah blah”
Honestly, this album was stronger than Fallen AND The Open Door. It really was Evanescence. And they will just continue to grow. Who says it will be longer than 5 years? And even if it DOES, Its whats best for Amy and the band’s well-being. Imagine how much energy they use touring. Everyone needs a break.
Personally, I’ve never even BEEN to an Evanescence concert (cause Montana sucks for a 13 year old who is obsessed with them) and I still understand. I want the best for the band and Amy.
So shut it and stop complaining. True EV fans will wander till the end of time <3

I’ve been a Evanescence fan since 2003 and I am grateful they are thinking about themselves about taking a few years off the road.People don’t understand is: 1. Being a musician/artist is hard.Especially if it’s a rock band.(There’s clue why there are not many female lead singers that are as good as Amy).2. Your touring non stop from city/country everyday!3. When singing it wares you down big time!Sometimes you loose your voice and get sick! 4.They need to see their families/have a normal life as long as it takes for them and when they are ready! 5. If they don’t get breaks how are they going to sing and make/write great music! This is how you get inspiration! You don’t want to see your favorite artist sound “horrible” live and on the album!Yes,it’s going take them awhile to make another album, but seriously fans(people) need to be patient! They are only human and cannot work work work! They will get stressed /angry with one another which will lead to a “BREAK UP!” I don’t want that happening! What makes a great band is they take breaks for while as long as they need!It may sound like they are breaking up,but sometimes you have to let the band have their own time!No matter what happens,If they end up breaking up then I understand and if they want to continue on making music I’ll support that too!If they break up (which I highly doubt!) then we move on and just listen to the records they recorded and put it into a memory and also why you love them! Also,Amy loves to sing! You can tell!On VH1′s Best Female Hard Rockers She stated: She will continue on singing! So there’s a clue!So EVANESCENCE IS NOT BREAKING UP!The band members just have other projects to do.Maybe Amy wants to start a family? She even stated she and her husband Josh want to have kids of their own. Please understand that they need their own time away from work too!I know you want to make another album as soon as possible, but seriously if I were in Amy’s position.I’ll do that.I’m an artist too (not music)wise, and understand that when you need to stop creating something then you have too!Until you get inspired again.Whenever I take a few years off!I create something new and even better!

hmmm They are peaple, they need normal life… it is a pitty that she hasn,t made a new video…but I will be waiting for her and a new album.

I disagree with a few comments. I think this self titled album was very weak and not cohesive in its feel. I felt like I was listening to more of a mix tape than an album. The mixing left much to be desired and the passion just didn’t feel real on many of the tracks. Also noted many people feel most of the tracks where forgettable and sounded allot alike. T.O.D was such a departure and a powerful piece of art. From the videos, packaging and heavy intricate layering of the music. It really said something and each track was haunting but defiantly felt like it belonged together as a whole. I want to hear the more solo esq projects from the lillywhite sessions they seemed like an exciting artistic evolution more of an off shoot from ev but at least it was what she really wanted to write at the time. WIND UP forced them to make this album and it was tossed together in a year. I hope they come back with a new sound that really rich and atmospheric again.

I’m more sad because Evanescence never went to the pacific northwest so people in Seattle or even Portland never got to see this album performed live. I felt really forgotten.
