Evans Blue Premiere New Song, “Halo”

Hard rockers Evans Blue will release their highly anticipated as-yet-untitled fourth album early next year. In anticipation, they’re unleashing a new song from the record, “Halo,” right here right now. The track will be available on iTunes on Tuesday. Check it out below, read what vocalist Dan Chandler has to say about the song, and let us know what you think in the comments.

REVOLVER What’s “Halo” about?
DAN CHANDLER The song was written about a moment in my life when I felt things/people were being taken from me without reason. Something a lot of us have unfortunately had to deal with.

Which part of it did you come up with first? And what was the inspiration?
Parker [Lauzon, guitar] sent me the music when I was going through a hard time. Many questions. When you lose something important to you, it’s almost like you can’t stop your mind from revisiting the past.

Was this an easy song to write or record?
The song came to me quick because of the mood I had been in. It was a very medicinal writing for me.

What sort of feedback have you gotten on this song so far?
This song has only been exposed to family and close friends so far. The song is personal and people close to me know me well, so they immediately understood what the song had to say. Definitely have had an overwhelming positive response.

The verses are strong and poignant. The guitars are more raw and gritty, which lends itself to the strength of the track. Radio might ask for the intro to be shortened so the first 9 seconds might be trimmed for a single but, for an album, who cares?  The song is cool. The synth strings are killer and the guitars still cut through them, which is actually pretty hard to do. All said and done, the song’s heart will still translate if it’s done with just vox and an acoustic guitar. Props.
