Exclusive: Feersum Ennjin Premiere “The Fourth,” Featuring Tool’s Danny Carey

Feersum Ennjin, the new band led by former Tool bassist Paul D’Amour (pictured left), are releasing their self-titled debut on November 22. The release date was moved back a week, from the originally announced November 15, so the group could add a new song, “The Fourth,” featuring Tool drummer Danny Carey. This marks the first time D’Amour and Carey have played together since the recording of Tool’s 1995 album, Ænema.

“Playing with Danny has really influenced how I have looked at rhythm over the years,” D’Amour says, “so working with him on ‘The Fourth’ felt pretty natural. It was great to hear him bash the old thunder cans again.”

Listen to the song below and let us know what you think in the comments. Feersum Ennjin’s debut album can be preordered right here now!

You can also listen to Feersum Ennjin’s previously released track “Fishing Ground” right here.

This sucks, wanna be Pink Floyd and Tool? Danny is tearing it up, but the rest blows!

    • beelzebub

You suck and so does your taste in tunes if all this reminds you of is Pink Floyd.  Really thats the best you have, Pink Floyd?  Thats the most generic shallow comparison anyone could come up with.  And as to the Tool.  Thats because two of the members are from Tool dipshit.  You have the musical comparison skills of a 15 year old boy.  So I commend you if you are younger.

you have no taste in music. period.

  • kellynicole

  • Alan4149

‘eh…….I could brush my teeth to it.

  • BeastinEastie

I guess it’s natural for people to compare this with Tool….but I were in their shoes it would really piss me off.   I think it’s a pretty decent effort on it’s own merits.

  • Vmm60419

So, why did he quit tool again?

  • EL_chivo

Love what I have been hearing. I like the individual paths of music. Thats playing in the band.

  • Caitlin Plavala

I like it a lot! Makes me want to hear more.

  • Satori Aeon

Tool meets Pink Floyd….and there’s nothing wrong with that!

  • Easillyamused

Very excited about this track! Just the right balance of complexity and adrenaline. Can’t wait to hear more!

  • Toilettinsquet

I didn’t find any Pink Floyd of this track. Little bit kind of tool sounds. Not so good track!

  • geesto

um… Justin was  the bassist on Ænima … researchist for the lose…

    • leaddy

aenima was already in recording when justin came aboard. which means paul WAS recording aenima with the band.

    • bomtwo

  • Sadf

Its alright.. I just cant get past my dislike of the name or its spelling…

    • Jillianstoppage

The name is inspired by the science fiction novel Feersum Endjinn by Iain Banks, an author whose novel The Wasp Factory was conceptual inspiration for Lusk as well.

New band? the EP in 2005 had five of these tunes!

  • B52

Quick correction, by 95, justin was already part of the band and touring. Then in 96, Ænema came out.

    • tooler

      well done shelock

  • Dariustwin84

I don’t understand why this was hyped up to be a debut album when this is the only new song on it. All of there other songs can be found on the feersum enjinn ep. Its pretty damn disappointing this is the only new song.

    • http://www.facebook.com/steven.kujala Steven Kujala

definitely not a new song. there’s 7 new songs including The Fourth

  • Toolband

Is This The End Of Tool?

    • tooler

      no.

  • Haraamkaur

Sounds like the haunted’s new stuff

  • RetroVertigo

Sounds more like Porcupine Tree than Pink Floyd or Tool. A bit of Isis there as well. Pretty decent I would say.

  • Blankemail

Does anybody think this has some Opeth / Metallica undertone in addition to Tool and Pink Floyd?
