Prog-metallers Giant Squid are set to release their new album, Cenotes (Translation Loss), on October 25. You can get an early taste of what’s in store, however, by taking a listen to one of the songs, “Figura Serpentinata (Pycnopodia Sapien).” Let us know what you think of it in the comments.     Been a fan (and eagerly awaiting every release) since Metridium Fields.  Wasn’t there something about an Ichthyologist comic?  Whatever… new stuff sounds killer and The Ichthyologist was a great follow up ‘Fields.

    Awwww shit yeah. Giant Squid’s one of the best damn bands around these days, and this rad new song totally proves it.

    I’m stoked for the new album, and even more stoked about the comic coming with the vinyl release next year.

    While I enjoyed it from the start, it took me a while to really get into it.  Giant Squid will always have the right to multiple listens before I truly judge how well it works for me.  The first time I heard a track from The Ichthyologist it left me a bit confused.  After it’s release and looking back now, it’s hard to say any album since has affected me the way it did.  

    This song is beautiful and haunting.  I am very excited to hear the longer works in the coming weeks.

    The only time I feel the word EPIC is appropriate is when I hear Giant Squid.
