Today, RevolverMag.com and GuitarWorld.com present the exclusive U.S. premiere of Corey Taylor’s new version of Dio’s “Rainbow in the Dark.”

The track, which you can dig into below, is from a new Dio tribute album, Ronnie James Dio: This Is Your Life, which will be released April 1. You can check out the complete track/artist listing below.

On the track — which originally appeared on Dio’s classic 1983 album, Holy Diver — the Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman is joined by Steel Panther guitarist Satchel, Stone Sour drummer Roy Mayorga and touring friends Jason Christopher and Christian Martucci.

“Ronnie was the most natural singer I have ever witnessed,” Taylor comments. “He could do anything, hit any note, make any audience lose their minds. He was one of the greatest and I’m so happy I got to see him live. ‘Rainbow in the Dark’ was the first Dio song I really loved to death–just a powerful, high-energy hard rock song that was so good I wished I’d written it. When I was asked to be a part of this album, I knew there was only one track I wanted to record and luckily I got it. I only hope I did it justice. Having had the privilege of meeting Ronnie before he passed, I hope he knows how much I loved him for who and what he was: One of the greatest.”

Take a listen and let us know what you think in the comments or on Facebook!

The album will raise funds for the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund.

Wow. It’s becoming very clear the Metallica track is the only reason to buy this album.

    • Jason Wallace

ha except KE’s holy diver cover is 1000000x better than what metallica did. granted metallica’s was solid, hell it is prob the best song they have ever done in years but only reason….dont eb a delusional fanboy

      • Jim Wake

Can’t agree more with ya pal ! KsE’s cover is kickin asses ! Metallica’s cover is great though but (this is the moment when im gonna make some ennemies) Lars is not the drum god he was in Shit and Binge live ! His drumplay kindda ruins the song ! But this album is gonna be great !

      • Steve

Says the KSE fanboy they’re fucking boring generic cookie cutter metal.

    • Pekvi

The metallica song is the weak link on this tribute..

      • Shmick

        Dumbest post yet.

    • Shaide

Ahhaha no.. Corey Taylor is a god. And Metallica is shit these days, they’ll never be what they used to be. And like Jason said, KsE’s cover was magical.

    • Kaypee

Have you heard Metallica in the past 5 years? lol if you can’t appreciate that Killswitch Engage version of Holy Diver then you just let down Dio!

  • porter

    i like it

I like it too – Dio was a master!

  • Chris Bardas

IMO this is awesome but the metallica is the best one yet. Besides being a medley and not just one song you could tell its metallica, here corey, although awesome, is not easily distinguishable

  • Alf

Metallica cover seems to be the only good track on this album

    • Shmick

      Not true.
The Metallica medley may prove to be the best track on the album, but not the only good one. We haven’t even heard the whole album yet.
Corey Taylor & band do a good job of this song, and the Motorhead track is solid as always.
I can’t wait to hear Anthrax’s version of “Neon Knights”, and Halford’s version of “Man on the Silver Mountain”. It will also be cool to hear the versions of “I” and “Catch the Rainbow” – two absolute classics being performed by noteworthy musicians.

This song brings me tears. Everyone of these guys show how much respect they had for Ronnie James Dio. Great job to everyone on this album. Ronnie is proud of every single one of you.

  • Nostradamus

I’ll probably get it for Rob’s song. I wish the rest of Priest could have done it too. And if he could have done Rainbow in the Dark, that would have been amazing.

  • Gina

I really like it. Missing a version of Heaven and Hell, though.

  • Markus Elfström

Caught In The Middle would have been nice :)

  • ryan

This is good, but not great. It felt like something was missing.

    • nict33

Yeah, Ronnie is missing, other than that I don’t think it could be much better

  • Dittle Little

Freaking awesome m/ m/ My absolute favorite RJD song performed by my man (sorry Stephanie) Corey F’king Taylor!!

Lets just agree that the whole album will be great. Dio’s music will always be some of the best ever written no matter who sings it.

  • Pauly1975

Holy crap, this makes me wanna wax my Camaro. This rocks!
RIP Ronnie. There’d be no showmanship in metal without ya.

  • David Snider

Should have had Coheed do the Heaven and Hell cover

    • Luke

      That would have been amazing.

  • http://www.rocketpopmedia.com/ Scott Dickens

This is a killer cover. I like Corey Taylor here, but I’m still not a big fan of Slipknot.

    • This

It’s because he CAN sing well he just chooses not to.
Try “Circle” and “Snuff”, two rather more sombre songs.

    • Skottie1994

He has another band other than Slipknot, its called Stone Sour.

  • colorado5150

wow… i was very sceptical when i read tis story. pleasantly surprised… RIP ronnie, you were the nicest guy i ever met!

  • Jimmy Jones

No Tracy G on this album??? What a fuckin joke.

  • Brandon Curtin

    Satchel’s solo is bitchin’.

  • Chuck Deezul

    Great singing Corey!

  • Pearly_1

I’m a fan of Stone Sour and Slipknot and love this cover. Corey sounds very different here, I like how adaptable his voice is.

  • Kevin B.
