Exclusive Premiere: Eyes Set to Kill Stream Their New Album, ‘White Lotus’

Our friends in Eyes Set to Kill are releasing their fourth full-length, White Lotus (Maphia), tomorrow. But here you can hear the album, in its entirety, right now. Frontwoman Alexia Rodriguez fills us in on the album below. Look for more about the record, including a different interview with  Alexia, in the September/October issue of Revolver, which will be available everywhere on August 16 (or you can order it right here right now.) Let us know what you think of White Lotus in the comments.

REVOLVER What did you want to do differently on this album compared to past Eyes Set to Kill releases?
ALEXIA RODRIGUEZ In the past, we have had other guitarists write along with me. This is the first time I got to write both guitars and follow through with my own vision without having anyone else go against it.

What did Cisko Miranda bring to the group, creatively?
With our past members, I was the dominant one creatively. Cisko has been the only one I could write with without fighting or having intense creative differences.

How did doing your solo album inform how you, as a band, created this album?
I have always been the main writer of Eyes Set to Kill, and I knew that some of the songs I was writing wouldn’t fit under our name. So I put these songs such as “Come Home,” “Memories,” and “Still Here” under my solo name. But as I recorded those songs on my own, I learned that Eyes Set to Kill fans could appreciate my acoustic songs, so that’s why I covered some songs acoustically on White Lotus and did an acoustic version of our new song, “Harsh.”

Why did you want to cover of Hole’s “Doll Parts” and Nirvana’s “Polly”?
I really wanted our fans to get to know who we are as musicians. We grew up on ’90s alternative rock, and Hole and Nirvana were both my favorite bands. They both influence me tremendously. I love Courtney Love’s voice and attitude and I love Kurt Cobain’s intellect in his lyrics and the originality of his guitar playing. A lot of people don’t respect him as a guitarist. I really believe he’s one of the best songwriters of my time, especially since his influences were the Beatles and the Byrds.

What about the acoustic version of “Harsh”?
We play a lot of random acoustic gigs, so I thought it would be rad for the fans to hear that song the way I wrote it, and the way I will perform it on my own. We always try to include the fans as much as possible into our music. That’s why we took two of our old EP songs and rewrote them for this release. Those songs used to be called “Pure White Lace” and “This Love You Breathe.” But they are now called “Erasing Everything” and “The Secrets Between.”

What are you proudest of about the album?
I’m most proud of Cisko’s vocals. These are the first recordings we have had so White Lotus should be a treat for our fans since they have only heard him live and through YouTube. [Laughs]

a few slow songs is ok but to have almost half the album be acoustic is like ehhh

don’t get me wrong i looooovvvvvvveeee ESTK but iono.

This is more of a lifeline record rather than an actual album. I personally feel it has too many acoustic songs to be considered a rock album. It seems that this is just a continuation of Alexia’s own album, and not an actual ESTK one. The two records have mucked and somehow, you can’t tell them apart.
Good band… just sucks the way they’re headed.

While the album itself is okay, it isn’t the same Eyes Set to Kill that I once knew. The original Eyes Set to Kill was much more “hardcore” with more screaming and less singing. TWosongs are unoriginal remakes songs…and it’s ironic that it’s Nirvana and Courtney Love remakes. 2 songs are ESTK remakes, from their very first album with Lindsey Vogt as the clean vocals singer. One of the songs, Erasing Everything, I actually like the original better. 3 of the songs have a screamers (Cisko’s) voice in it…some barely at all….and 2 out of 3 of those songs were remakes…but one is a very noticable remake of ESTK song. And 5 of the songs are acoustic. It seems every CD they become less and less hardcore…and more and more…poppy or acoustic like. :( While I still like the CD, it isn’t the ESTK I used to enjoy so much.

This album is okay, I was left wanting more. I wish we could have heard more of cisko, he was only like on 2 or 3 songs. I like the acousics but, they could of been on a separate EP, I wanted more hardcore tracks. While this album is good, its my least fav from the band thus far.

Erasing Everything sounds like Bitter Pills :/

    • Kmmora91

it actually sounds like pure white lace…

      • Scream4vallari

It is the remake of pure white lace.

tracks 1-6, awesome, after that, im kinda disappointed :/
i think it was originally supposed to just be an ep anyway but still… im afraid this album is like the world outside and not quite on par with the other two albums.

Even though half of the album is acoustic its still very good, and this band is different from so many other bands, I think they get better with every album they release and alexia’s voice also gets better with every album, I do agree that Cisko should have been in more songs. Even if Eyes Set To Kill changes there sound to something thats not hardcore, i’ll still support them but they just wont be one of my favorite bands.

First time hearing the band. Pretty good stuff

Its good yet disapointing. The acoustic songs are alright but they should’ve done a seperate album with just acoustic songs on it. That would’ve been cool.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000917352605 Jose Requeno

Very true, To me acoustic isn’t really my thing i just want fall asleep cause there’s no drums playing :o

  • CMPulsar

I think this is the best thing they’ve done. I actually always felt that Alexia’s vocals were the strength of the band, and I think having the focus on her and not on someone screaming is a good move.

  • Alejandro77775

I love it! It’s got sort of a new sound to it(:
