Exclusive: Skillet Premiere Music Video for “Sick Of It”

Today, RevolverMag.com presents the exclusive premiere of “Sick Of It,” a new music video by Skillet. The song is the lead single from the band’s upcoming album, Rise, which will be released June 25 by Atlantic/Word.

Rise follows the Grammy-nominated band’s 2009 album, Awake, which was certified platinum for sales in excess of one million copies in the US. Skillet were the only active rock band to achieve platinum certification in 2012, and they were one of three rock bands (with Mumford & Sons and the Black Keys) to strike platinum that year.

The band maintains momentum with Rise, their first concept album, though lead singer/bassist John Cooper says it wasn’t premeditated. The album tells the story of an American teen coming into adulthood and trying to figure out who he is in a world riddled with problems within and outside his control.

“The narrative idea happened after we had 10 or 11 of the songs chosen,” Cooper says. “As we recorded them, we started to realize there was something going on, that the album was really telling a story. Realizing that, I knew we needed to make it as powerful as we could.”

Skillet (Cooper, guitarist/keyboardist Korey Cooper, drummer/vocalist Jen Ledger and guitarist Seth Morrison) recorded the album in Los Angeles, where they re-teamed with producer Howard Benson (My Chemical Romance, All American Rejects), who helmed Awake.

Skillet are direct support to Shinedown on the upcoming Carnival of Madness Tour. For more about the band, including tour dates, visit their official website and Facebook page.

It looks pretty cool when Korey switches around with keybpard/guitar. Pretty sure most electronic sounds are prerecorded at live shows though.

I really, really love Skillet, I’ve seen them live and I have met them before. I love this song but… The video is very unrealistic, and I didn’t like John’s moves. It’s way to easy to see that they have used Green screen…

Is this still a Christian band??? Never seem to hear anything of our awesome God mentioned or anything remotely of the saving news of Jesus Christ. The music is still great but maybe they have gone over to the secular side???

    • Blue Yonder

I think the Christian elements are still there, at least in their last album “Awake” (especially in the title song and “Forgiven”), even if they are not explicitly named. Since this album is a concept with a narrative, I think they might be building towards the Good News through the character’s personal journey.

Love it. There are to many “Christians” that are to willing to judge the ministry and music of Skillet and their contemporaries like Red. The religion of Christianity has got in the way the relationships. If you study the letters to the churches in Revelation you will see that the church that got it right was the one who loved. I am sick to death of those “Christians” who stand and judge instead of realizing that they will never deserve the grace given to them. NEVER.

Stop judging others and look in the mirror. Save or unsaved we are ALL sinners.

Get over yourself and get in the dirt like Skillet and Red. Get dirty, get bloody, give your love away. But most of all realize that grace is a gift. YOU are not perfect. YOU will always be a sinner in this life.

Yes, Skillet is a Christian band because they are living out their calling. They are not pointing fingers and judging others.

Just cause they do not say talk about God or Jesus does not been that they are not a Christian Band, saying something like that is already being a bad Christian. If you do not understand what they are saying do not listen to it, but if you understand what they are saying it does relate to real life problems and are younger generation needs this try of christian music to relate to our Lord Jesus Christ and if you do not like dont listen but my younger son loves this band and we talk about God all the time after he listens to this C.D. I love Skillet. Keep doing what your doing, your truely bless.

Im so sad, Skillet is my favorite band, but Do you really think than a Jesus Follower make things like that? They start with a pure and good lyrics, but now its different. The world must to change by Jesus, not Jesus must change by world. Really think about it, ask your self this: What would Jesus do?

I used to idolize Skillet, but this new vibe seems a bit off to me, and I can’t say I particularly enjoy it as much as their other music. Come on, John! I liked the Christian aspect of Skillet with snippets of the real world, not this new stuff.

    • John

      Amen to that

  • Chipoco

AWESOME Music & video quality!! Skillet could only preach hope from the safety of Christian Concerts, Christian Festivals, Christian Youth Rallies where mostly Christians attend however, thousands of souls are not being reached and going to eternal death… You go Skillet!!
