Exclusive Videos: Slayer Discuss Remaining Jeff Hanneman Material, Next Album and “Old School” Set List

Today, RevolverMag.com presents two exclusive new interview videos featuring Slayer guitarist Kerry King and drummer Paul Bostaph. In the top clip, King discusses material left behind by co-founding guitarist Jeff Hanneman, who died in May. King implies he’d like to rework the material and include it on Slayer’s next studio album.

“If we’re gonna release things that Jeff wrote β€” I’ve seen other bands do it in the past, and it’s generally not good,” King says in the video. “I don’t want it to be perceived like that. If we’re gonna put out Jeff’s last contributions in Slayer, if it ain’t awesome, you’re not gonna hear it.”

In the bottom clip, the band discuss their next album and their current “old school” set list, which includes tracks from 1983′s Show No Mercy, 1985′s Hell Awaits, 1986′s Reign In Blood, 1988′s South of Heaven and more.

“We’re having such a great time rehearsing this old-school set, we’ve decided to play it on every one of our upcoming tour dates,” King said in a previous statement.

“The final set list is still coming together,” said Tom Araya in the same release from the band. “But we’re going to give the fans what amounts to decades of aggression. It’s going to be a great night of music and moshing for everyone.” You can check out the band’s remaining dates below!

  • Iparatroop

Saw them in Seattle. They played nothing post-Seasons. Good god damn show.

  • Rich

Get Dave back in the band

  • C More

Why do people even listen to Kerry King anymore? He’s proven that he cares about one thing, Kerry King, and that’s it, period.

  • Chris Thewyldone Caudill

If jeff aint playing it, we dont wanna hear it… publish his written words as a last tribute to him/ and Get dave back in the band!!!!

  • Tony

    Bring Dave back!!!!

  • whatcom_bassist

It’s unfortunate that there’s so much drama surrounding Slayer. But I saw them last week in Seattle and they simply crushed, as always.

  • Old school slaytanic

Best final words ever from kerry: “I’m always wrong”!!

  • cool guy

The Kerry haters need to STFU. I love Jeff and am not undermining him here, but Kerry IS a founding member of Slayer who did have a major influence on their sound and image. Yes his current “image” is not what i would go for, but whatever, I will not take away from him the fact that he is a main reason Slayer even existed.

  • Anti kerry

Publish his demos I don’t care. Last thing I want is to hear Kerry ruin Jeff’s work.

  • Adversaryan

Also was there for the Seattle show. I was screaming some songs i hadn’t heard in a long time. My neck hurts and there was enough weed being passed around for everybody lol. Fuckin epic show If it is the last Slayer show I ever see I am happy with it. Kicked my asses face.

  • seth

    Dave back please!!!

  • Jacob Shane Sereno

I am a die hard Slayer fan. I can not wait to see them again next weekend. Kerry is a douche. Dave was amazing. Stop with the hating. It is still Slayer. No Tom no Slayer. Paul was with the band for years and the put out great records with him. He is the only suitable replacement. Gary Holt is a bad ass and he is nice. I personally would wish Kerry would stop being a control freak and be open to some Ideas. It could be a new beginning for Slayer. I don’t ever want them to stop until they are all dead.

What I got out of the interview with KK and PB…

Jeff’s material needs rework, help by KK? In Jeff’s absence it sounds like KK is full of himself. Surprised? I’m not. Paul Bostaph also seems like a bit of a tool. Didn’t say a word in either segment. Probably exactly what the band wants, someone who isn’t going to give them grief or rock the boat. I’d love to hear new material cause World Painted Blood was pretty boring for me.

    RIP Jeff.

  • WTF

He missed on thing the band isn`t call Slayer anymore is Kerry King band and the others are just puppets on a string, to bad that Gary Holt is with them!!Gary go back to Exodus and release a new album is time !
