Former ‘American Idol’ Contestant James Durbin Streaming New Song “Stand Up”

American Idol season 10 finalist James Durbin–who performed on the show with Zakk Wylde and Judas Priest, and is featured in the current issue of Revolver–is releasing his debut album in November on Wind-up Records. In advance of the record, however, the singer has unveiled his song “Stand Up,” which is featured on the Official Gameday NFL Music Vol. 2 EP. Let us know what you think in the comments.

    Totally dig it! It’s catchy, strong yet radio pleasant. Powerful vocals and solid instrumental background. Shows off James Durbin’s 80′s Hard Rock/Heavy Metal influence but with a cmtemporary touch.
    I expect his album will have this type of sound, some heavier tracks and 1 or 2 ballads, really 80′s style.

    Very exciting song, the intensity remained constant but didn’t detract from the lyrics. Enjoyable to listen to and grabs you right away. Lyrics are easy to remember and vocal and instrumental arrangements were in Harmony with each other. After initial hearing I kept going back and listening to it over and over again, left me with the feeling I was at one of James Durbin’s concerts. Easy to sing along and dance to. A must for anyone who appreciates a good song whether they are a James Durbin fan or not.

    OMG I absolutely loved it. Great Rock but with catchy radio appeal. I too listened to over and over and usually I have to get use to a song but this one I loved from the first play.

    Love it…I downloaded it today and listened all day…then came home and made each person in my family listen…..everyone in the family liked it…very catchy…great lyrics and vocals of course!

    This is the only good song by any of the AI10 alum to date, and the best song on the NFL Gameday EP to boot! It’s “poppier” than Durbin would like but it’s well written, has a hook, the instrumentation is good and his vocals shine throughout, and I don’t hear any autotune at all. This is the perfect song for sports stadium audiences, it’s high energy yet not too edgy or heavy to scare little kids and conservative grandparents.

    I loved the lyrics. But what I really loved (besides the melody,and solid instrumental, kinda modern vision of the 80′s) is that, unlike those suckers producers of AI, Benson let JAMES explore all his vocal range. He is singing in 3 different octaves with his trademark super high notes. No blanding his high notes, no cutting out his wildness, no suggarcoating his vocals, and NO AUTOTUNE. It’s JAMES DURBIN’s voice and strong unique voice through and through. GREAT. I’m sure his album is gonna ROCK! (I wish I could go to a NFL game with this song blasting the speakers).

His album will be awesome. If he delivers the other tracks like this song, IT IS GOING TO BE F**** GREAT!

    total throwback, nothing original at all. It sounds just like every big hair band song made in the late 70s and early 80s. Bon Jovi wanna be. Not radio material at all. I’ll be impressed if James can sing it live in tune *doubtful*

      You surely didn’t go to any AI Tour Concert or you’d KNOW James sings in perfect pitch and tune and that he is able to pull off this song with on-key notes and more.

    It’s a song designed to a specific porpose. NFL games and stadiums.
    It’s not at all related to James’ debut album. So effing metalheadz:
    stop bashing James for this “lame song” as you call it cuz the song is
    GREAT, his vocals are INSANE and your beloved bands didn’t have the
    ballz James has to take upon himself the mission to bring back hard
    rock & metal to the mainstream.
