Remember when Will Ferrell and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith issued that drum battle challenge to Lars Ulrich?

Well, apparently the Metallica drummer has accepted.

Here’s the statement Ulrich provided to Spin:

“It was a little lonely on the sidelines during the first drum-off, given the somewhat forced nature of the lookalike element between Chad Smith and Will Ferrell, when I’m TRULY the one carrying that dead-ringer gene around! As for any further drum-offs, I’m sure that with a bit of practice, I could give Chad a run for his money. But Will? That’s a whole different story. He rules the “bad-ass drummer universe.” I mean, you’re talking about a guy who’s so next level, actually, so beyond next level, that he may just be completely unreachable! That said, I’m definitely up for the challenge…Bring it on!!!”

So, do you think Ulrich has what it takes?

What a good sport. This will be good hearted entertainment, with no use for shit talkers!

    • Elijah-Blue Vieau

Haters can hate. Lars and Chad are going to set some sort of record for highest level of drum awesomeness in one room.

    • Jimmy Conway

I won’t be a shit watcher either Joshy Boy!

  • Elijah-Blue Vieau

Lars is a born entertainer, very comedic and quirky… It’s going to be AWESOME!

  • right and your wrong

oh lame ulrich…i remember him. He’s that lame ass that’s anti rock and helped kill napster… a true loser

  • Jimmy Conway

We love when our fans record our shows. We love when they trade bootleg tapes. Oh wait, now that were a huge success we can’t have that going on electronically on Napster. I will do everything I can to stop this. I am Hypocrite Man!!

    • Qwertits

      Wow..get over it

      • Jimmy Conway

        FUCK YOU!!

        • Andrew Meyer

          That escalated quickly.

    • Joshua D. Booth

Really? You need to grow up. Hundreds traded vs. millions traded… Like leave a penny/take a penny vs. robbing a bank. You need more perspective in your very young and inexperienced life.

      • Jimmy Conway

Do you mean don’t look at you like you’re an idiot. That perspective. Lars is a hypocrite, plain and simple. I didn’t know 46 years old was young and inexperienced. I was into Metallica when Kill Em All came out. I paid for my copy by the way. Now my teenage kids like early Metallica. How’s that for “inexperience”?

  • Pantera Steve Chukra

Lars Ulrich sucks as a drummer

    • Qwertits

Yeah you suck as a dude, or ill bet thats what your bitch thinks. Fuckin bandwagon jumper

      • Pantera Steve Chukra

and you suck as a little girl cause the truth hurts and you know this man

  • Scotty Hart

heres got this, if you honestly think he is a shitty drummer. maybe you havent spent enough time behind the kit yourself.

  • Ross Ozee

Lars is a beast, but lets add Vinnie Paul to the mix!

  • Mike

If anyone thinks Lars is a horrible drummer, go back and listen to Dyers Eve. This is just one example off the top of my head. However, I would say he has not been really innovative at all in recent albums, and I loved Death Magnetic. Also, I think Lars’ drums were the best part of St. Anger. It was the first time since 91 that he seemed confident, passionate and uninhibited. If it wasn’t so oddly sounding on the snare, I think he would’ve been praised for his performance on that album. Wow, a guy on the internet saying good things about Lars! I promise I am not him lol.

    • Carlo Albento

just a lazy guy, that’s all!

  • Name1

Not a fan of Slipknot, BUT Joey Jordison is the king of drummers…that being said though, Ulrich isn’t bad at all.

    • MikeS666

haha what world are you living on????? Look up George Kollias or Chris Adler, they shit on Jordison.

      • Mike

Danny Carey of Tool and Terry Bozzio are probably the best drummers I know of, regardless of rock sub-genre.

  • Tim Smart

    larz all the way!

  • dreddurius

Chad’s taking Lars back to school.

  • Cody Miller

Lars is the one who got me into drumming so, I gotta go lats

  • Robmop

Lars should start using real drumsticks, the plastic ones just mess with your playing

  • Chris Topher Hill

Lars can barely beat his dick let alone the drums, lol… Chad is a better drummer than Lars first off, and the only look alike Lars will find is Mr. Mackey from South Park…

  • Frank Maresca

Let’s just put it out there. Lars is the drummer in one of the biggest and best bands still playing today. Granted there are many drummers in metal far more technical than him (Dave Lombardo, Charlie Benante, Mike Portnoy etc.) but he would be the first to admit that. He isn’t the best drummer in the world but he doesnt need to be…he does what he needs to in Metallica and he fits in and the final product is awesome. This is the baseball equivalent of he is no Mickey Mantle but he is still a major league baseball player and does things none of us can. Besides the drum off is all in the spirit of fun.

  • Jarrod Allison

Most overrated drummer ever,,,lead singer of godsmack could take him down in a battle,,,he doesnt stand a chance

  • Frankie Seuss

    omgahd travis barker is better!1!1!!!!1

  • poop

Hey at least he admits he would need practice. Seems like he has a sense of humour about it too. Obviously Chad is the better drummer but it’s all in the spirit of fun. If you’re looking for a real drum battle watch the guinness world records for drumming.

    • MikeS666

      George Kollias, enough said.

  • Mike

Is there any info on when this is happening and if we can watch it? And Lars is not even the second best drummer of the big 4. I would say third, but quite frankly I don’t know much about Megadeth’s current maybe 4th, i don’t know. It doesn’t matter. Anyways, Lars’ greatest talent, especially at this point in his career is probably his composition skills. I don’t care what anyone says, Death Magnetic was great, it wasn’t his fault it was so distorted. Correct me if Im wrong but doesn’t he compose/refine the songs along with james more than kirk and rob?

Anyways, yeah if anyone has info, I would love to watch it!
