Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington Performs and Releases Single with Stone Temple Pilots

Fans attending KROQ’s annual Weenie Roast over the weekend got a surprise when Stone Temple Pilots took the stage unannounced, for a set with Chester Bennington of Linkin Park as lead vocalist.

The crowd went wild as the band performed STP classics like “Sex Type Thing” and “Vasoline” and also debuted a brand new song, “Out of Time”–the recording of which KROQ premiered immediately following the band’s 40-minute set. You can hear the track below.

When Stone Temple Pilots band members, Dean DeLeo, Robert DeLeo and Eric Kretz began thinking of singers to accompany the new music they were working on, Bennington was at the top of the list. “Chester has a one-of-a-kind voice that we’ve admired for a long time,” said Dean DeLeo. “We know Linkin Park will always be his priority, but we thought it would be cool to try something together. We managed to find the time to record a song and we’re all really happy with the result.”

“I’ve loved STP since I was 13 years old and they’ve had a huge influence on me,” explained Bennington. “When the opportunity came up to do something creative with them, I jumped at the chance. The guys in Linkin Park have been incredibly supportive of me undertaking this project while I’ve continued to work on new music with LP.”

Fuck the haters, this is awesome.

  • Bill B.

It’s horrible. Scott’s voice is STP, imo. Atleast change the name or something.

  • Brad

This works well. A kick ass band performance, and Chester fits in very well.

  • Cristine

I don’t know what the band is talking about because it sounds something Scott would sing. Just doesn’t fit at all.

  • ChevyHeston

    Stone Temple Poser.

I love Scott Weiland and if he would stay clean he would still be the frontman for this awesome group! Not fair for the rest of STP to not be able to release new music cuz Scott doesn’t show up to practice or shows! Time to move on!

yea i agree with bill, this sounds decent, but change the name at least. i love stp, but its not stp with chester

  • Annoyed

Bitch all you want, Scotts a drug addict who can’t stay clean for one show. Some idol you guys have here. In all honesty, this sounds like STP. Sure his voice isn’t identical, but I actually like it better. Chances are, Chester will actually show up for shows, and probably not be strung out and beating his wife in the process. Why must music fans complain about everything constantly, just shut up and enjoy the music, or don’t. It’s really that simple. The internet has made every asshole out there think they have a voice and that it actually matters. The band chose this, not you. On a further not, they said it would be something fun to try, never did they say it was a permanent replacement. Is it that hard to just be happy with some cool new tunes?

What the hell is this? This is not STP
