Metallica’s Lars Ulrich on His Favorite Songs by Slayer

In honor of the hugely anticipated Big 4 Festival in Indio, California, on April 23, Revolver has put out The Big Four special collector’s issue, chronicling the history of thrash metal’s most legendary bands. The magazine is on newsstands now, as well as available online here. While making the issue, we talked to some of the Big Four’s most heralded musicians about their favorite songs from the other bands. Today, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich tells us about his favorite Slayer song.

“Obviously, ‘Angel of Death’ [off 1986’s Reign in Blood] is kind of just timeless. I really like ‘Postmortem,’ and I don’t know…fuck. The video where they’re out in the dessert, ‘Seasons in the Abyss,’ is awesome. I think that’s enough to get us started at least, right?

“Yeah, listen, we [Metallica] can dabble in some of those for about 30 seconds until my feet fall off. We absolutely jam on those once in a while when we need to start getting pumped up and getting flexing. [Laughs]”

I like how these metal bands are now all complimenting each others work in a sincere way. Seems like the big boys of metal are in a good headspace right now.
