Michael Lessard of Last Chance to Reason Picks His Five Favorite Albums of the Year

Leading up to the end of the year, Revolver has asked some of our favorite artists to pick their Top Albums of 2012 and tell us why each record rules. Here, Michael Lessard (pictured left), vocalist of the prog-metal band Last Chance to Reason, selects his faves.

5. Cattle Decapitation, Monolith of Inhumanity
“The brutality of this album and it’s ability to leave you feeling unsettled is what makes it of my favorite releases this year.”

4. Coheed and Cambria, The Afterman: Ascension
“Coheed and Cambria are one of my favorite modern rock bands, but I have been waiting for them to find their groove after drummer Josh Eppard left the band. This album marks the return of Eppard and the classic Coheed and Cambria sound.”

3. The Contortionist, Intrinsic
“I enjoy the direction The Contortionist took with this release. Nerdy lyrics fused with futuristic instrumentation serves as great formula!”

2. Brian Eno, LUX
“It has become ritual for me to end my day to the beautiful, soaring soundscapes that Brain has created on this piece of art.”

1. Frank Ocean, Channel Orange
“Frank takes such an interesting approach to pop music that I was hooked the first time I ever heard his music. The album has a great mixture of unorthodox sounds and refreshing synth tones that lend themselves nicely to Frank’s unique voice. Combining the odd vibes with the infectious melodies makes for a collection of songs that I find worth putting on repeat.”
