Motionless in White Release New Video for “Immaculate Misconception” (NSFW)

Motionless in White have released a new video for their track “Immaculate Misconception.” Taken from their debut album, Creatures, the video has already sparked controversy due to its graphical depictions of crucifixion and pointed attacks on certain aspects of the Christian community. Let us know what you think in the comments.

The song title is pure genius.  The concept of the video itself has been done before, but the point still stands strong: that is illustrating and exposing the hypocrisy of Christians that shun and outcast people based on their archaic, fictitious beliefs when the main center of their branch of Judaism is the martyr of Christ being crucified by an intolerant and ignorant society on the basis of their unjustified religion.

As for the song, this song is your typical tread of the mill low-tier metalcore.¬† There’s is nothing new, inventive, or even musically appealing about it.¬† The lyrics, albeit carrying a very true message, are written with erudition and execution of a 13 year old.¬† For a song that has been done a dozen times over, it is just outright plain and obvious, as if deriving motivation from better songs and merely writing down their interpretation of them, leaving you with the same message, but the lack of finesse or poetic merit.

The video itself is somewhat counter-productive.¬† It really just shows a bunch of “outcast” cliche lookalike kids trying to look tough, encouraging the intolerant society they spawn from to think they’re just jokes.

Better songs, like Avenged Sevenfold’s “Remenissions” come to mind when in the subject because that song was very well done and beautifully written, and I don’t see why anyone would rather listen to “Immaculate Misconception” instead.¬† I suppose when the lead singer of Motionless in White says he’s writing for the kids, he’s referring to the dumber, less educated audience.¬†

These same people would not understand the nuances in the Edgar Allan Poe-esque poetry and hints of existentialist philosophy in Remenissions, nor would this younger, inexperienced audience probably have a taste for the eclectic musicality in the song (drawing influences from melodic death, black, punk, and even flamenco).¬† Therefore, I don’t know if I could condemn Motionless in White for putting forward this more bland and less artistic song.¬† They could really think they’re reaching out for more people, or maybe they just want their share of the cake.¬† The only think I’m concerned of is that this song will probably evoke more self-important, dumbass kids to act like idiots and think their actions are justified (like the clown from that video “Pen and Knives” by that awful band Black Veil Brides).

Please don’t talk about things you don’t know. I do love Motionless in White and Black Veil Brides, which doesn’t make me a dumb nor an egocentric¬†teen, and I can still appreciate Avenged Sevenfold.
Also, this song may not be written like a poem, but this is actually what makes it strong: feelings, guts, not lexical fields. If you ever felt hurt, you know that screaming your pain, writting it everywhere with the most simple words is somehow the only way to heal.
And actually, you say this song is “exposing the hypocrisy of Christians”, but it’s not quite it. It’s more general than that, it’s about using religion as an excuse for terrible acts ; the parallel with Jesus is only there to outline the fact that some Christians today¬†do the same as their Christ’s persecutors.
About the video? The message “fight fire with fire” may not be the best, but it shocks, and, admit it or not, it makes you think.
Since I consider myself as a polite person, I’ll resist the envy to tell you to go fuck yourslef if you don’t like it.
Well, on that, have a great day.

I didn’t say that the song was about the hypocrisy of Christians.¬† I said _the video_. I’m pointing out the Christ parallelism.¬† Maybe you need some English classes.¬† (While in the subject, you’re using the word “envy” incorrectly.)

I’m the one usually recommending kids not to talk about things they don’t know, and it seems you didn’t point out anything I don’t know.¬† So please, don’t use the line as a generic quip.¬† It subtracts the effectiveness it would have when used by actual intelligent people.

As much as I’d like it to be otherwise, you telling me that you’re not a dumb, musically inexperienced teen does not convince me.¬† Black Veil Brides pretty much epitomizes generic music intended for dumb, uneducated, self-entitled kids.¬† I can’t possibly conceive an intelligent person with an actual taste for music finding any appeal in the song.¬† But hey, you guys probably don’t know much about the genre, and trendy generic bands like this could be your portal to learning some metal and hardcore history.

The video makes you think?¬† Of course it makes you think.¬† I think I mentioned that when I sang its praises in my own post, so why mention it?¬† Did you think you’re teaching my something?¬† My critique still stands unaddressed.¬† The song is generic, sub par, artistically void of merit…¬† Remenissions was not only deep, well written, and well composed, but it has some of the strongest feelings I’ve heard in a song in my life. You are missing the point.¬†

Why would I listen to the ramblings of an angry 9 year old kid strumming 1 chord on a guitar when I could listen to Brahm’s devastating Cello Sonata No. 1?

Don’t be discouraged though, stuff like this should make you listen to bands Motionless in White draws influence from like the Orange County metalcore scene.¬† The Orange County metalcore scene draws influence from punk and the gothenburg melodic death scene too.¬† It’s really nice when you find out about this kind of stuff.

        • Leelyane

I¬†do need English class, I’m sorry if it bothers you, but what matters the most is that you got my point.¬†English is¬†my second language and I mostly learned it by myself,¬†but you’ll never catch me making mistakes in French. Anyway, sorry about the whole Christian thing. I didn’t read carefully enough, I guess.

The thing you don’t know was clear enough. You don’t know me, nor any fan of those bands you dislike. Not personally. You don’t know anything about how smart or how dumb I am. My tastes are just different from yours. And I’m not saying I’ve listened to all types of music and that my judgement won’t change, I’m getting more “musical experience” everyday, but for now, I like MIW and BVB and their music , aside from others’, is keeping me alive everyday. Which matters most to me than the degree of “poeticness” in them.

The actual intelligent people? You’re one of them, obviously. Don’t worry, I used to be like you, too. Thinking I was so much smarter, because I knew so many things and could recite the dictionnary and show-off about it. I was so fucking wrong. Knowledge doesn’t help you when you realize how cold the world is. (Sorry, I’m a little out of the subject here. But that’s the point of discussion, isn’t it? Go a little ¬†further and express yourself.)

Intelligence can come in many ways, and, trust me, the music you listen to doesn’t have much to do with it. Some people don’t even care about it, some listen to Justin Bieber, some to Paramore, some to Metallica, but you never has the right to condemn¬†them for this. In each case, there are brilliant and stupid people, even though it’s not all black and white.

Reminissions is a good song, but I personally didn’t see in it¬†all these strong¬†feelings you’re talking about. This is it. For the same message, I prefer the raw and powerful Immaculate Misconception, and you, the poetic and deep Reminissions. We’re different. Which song is better? We’ve got our own answers.

What made me react that much is that, after exposing your point of view about the song and the video, you just went on insulting people based on what type of music they listen to, judging them without knowing them. And please don’t tell me you didn’t.

So, so, so. Why would you listen to this when you could listen to Brahm or Avenged Sevenfold? Well, I don’t give a damn. Listen what makes you feel good. As long as you follow your feelings there’s no problem. I’m not trying to convince you that MIW is better. I’m trying to convince you that you shouldn’t care either about what other people listen to as long as they’re happy with it. And DON’T tell me you don’t. Because everything you said betrays you.

          • shadowhog

So many things wrong with your post it’s hard to know where to start.¬† I’ll try to keep it short.

-I don’t presume that I’m smarter than other people due to an enlarged vocabulary or random facts.¬† The intelligence I refer to is logic and proper argumentation.¬† You don’t need to know fucking anyone to be able to discern that they are bad at argumentation if they commit fallacy (like the straw man fallacy you just committed).¬† What’s even worse is when people run a laughably flawed argument and pretend they proved a point, like the uneducated, self-important, dumbass kids I mentioned.

-I have experienced a trend of uneducated, self-important, dumbass kids among their fans…¬† like this ScreamoJunkie retard kid that did nothing but post a cliche ad hominem as if that in any way invalidated my critique and trying to use loaded language like “judgment” to try to impress.¬† Must not know anything about the arts to not understand what a critique is…¬† Telling yourselves things like he just did without any logical basis only proves one’s¬† intellectual deficiencies.¬† And when I say “logical”, I mean the actual word, and not what every little dumbass kid wants to think the word means so it will suit their convenience.¬† You know, the kind of stuff you take classes for.¬† If you haven’t taken any classes, chances are you are an average idiot and should avoid argumentation in general.

-Opinions are not arbitrary.¬† Despite all these kids’ middle-school oversimplified logic comprehension, an opinion can be better than someone else’s.¬† An opinion can be evaluated as smart or intelligent, and an opinion is formed from comprehension, knowledge, and perception, although it can be influenced by personal taste.¬† Your inability to discern to the emotion behind a song like Remenissions, favoring instead a rather tread of the mill, oversimplified song like Immaculate Misconception is due to lack of perception.¬† In the other hand, there’s nothing in this song that is eluding me.

-You say that all I did was insult people.¬† Don’t you think that is some heavy rhetoric?¬† My observations can be considered insulting, but there is more credit to them than just that.¬† I did and that is to say that the video concerns me because it could encourage idiotic behavior.

There’s nothing I said that betrays me, so please don’t go pretending you can contrive points like that without any proper reasoning.¬† I wrote this in a rush, so my bad if it is all jumbled and hard to understand.

@ScreamoJunkie I definitely like you XD

I don’t think that its just christians that are discriminating against bands like this. you’re just as bad for saying so. Its people who look at someone who’s different and judge. Christianity may spawn alot of these types of people, but they come from all walks of life. The video uses christ as an example in that at the time people recognized that his ideas were different so they mobbed and crusified him. The video isn’t even anti christian. ¬†Its anti judgement.¬†
¬†and to say that Motionless in White’s for uneducated types? You’re a fool. Avenged Sevenfold sucks major balls dude. You think you’re some type of intellectual? You’re just another judgemental fuck like the song stands against….

    • SadisticLust

Shadowhog for someone that is trying to sound smart you sure seem to be closed minded. ¬†Everyone is entitled to an opinion. ¬†The only problem I have with your opinion is that you state this band and Black Veil Brides suck and Avenged Sevenfold is better. ¬†As if your opinion is some kind of universal or something. ¬†I happen to enjoy listening to all the bands you mentioned. ¬†Everything you have stated is your own personal opinion and that is all. ¬†Also to say that Motionless in White is referring to a “dumber, less educated audience” is simply a closed minded statement. ¬†I have won several awards based on merit alone and I have served in a variety of positions in scholastic organizations. ¬†I do not consider myself ignorant nor uneducated and I happen to enjoy Motionless in White and Black Veil Brides. ¬†This alone should open your mind into ending or beginning posts of this nature with the words “In my opinion” to eliminate any unnecessary closed minded remarks. ¬†
People listen to music that they enjoy.  Obviously you do not enjoy this band or BVB, so do not listen to them and do not criticize those that do.  Doing this will eliminate any grief or stress that may arise from you listening to something that you obviously dislike.  Also by avoiding videos that you dislike you can also avoid posting closed minded comments that deep down inside you know will anger people.  It seems to me that you just feel like angering people with your comments.

OH BY THE WAY IT IS RUDE TO THROW MISTAKES PEOPLE MAKE IN THEIR FACE LIKE THE WAY YOU TOLD LEELYANE TO TAKE ENGLISH CLASSES AS IF YOUR WRITING IS PERFECT. ¬†( I’m not assuming mine is tho)¬†

All in all this is just a clash of differing opinions, which is natural.

@ shadowhog the point of music is to express yourself. ¬†It is not to sound intellectual or even logical it is simply to express yourself and hope others enjoy the music that is created. ¬†This is not always the case, but lets assume it is in this situation. ¬†It is true the concept of this song is not original, but nowadays many things are not. ¬†It does not change the fact the song is good in the opinion of others. ¬†When you say this song is not “musically appealing” you are simply stating your own opinion. ¬†Unless for some reason you think you speak for everyone. ¬†As for Black Veil Brides I personally enjoy there music along with Motionless in White’s. ¬† ¬† ¬†

well, i am a practicing catholic but i also love my metal music. honestly, i love the words & the video. they go great. i got what he was saying because he was just saying it. there were no hidden phrases that could be left up 2 your interpritation. hello! he was saying if you don’t like him or what he says you can come get you some! it’s obvious that he just used that christian stuff because it’s the classic example of persicution ¬†for being you. the prime example of persicution, so, quit try’n 2 interprit your own theory of what is really going on & stick 2 the subject. this is not an AVENGED SEVENFOLD site or n e other site, so get over yourselves & comment on this video.

  • Marquisepeak

everything they said is true because the expect u to do a certin thing in some churche

  • Drowingxeyes

I think the for most part the video is true. Certian Christians tell people like them that God hates them and they’re going to hell. But if you read the Bible it states that God hates no one he loves everyone and the only way you are going to hell is if you dont accept Christ. Not because youre in a metal band. The lead singer says at one point in this song that he wants people to feel like theyre not alone, which in my opinion is a good thing. Because alot of teenagers out there feel as though they are alone and no one listens to them. Also, they fact that he knows what exactly happened during Christ crucifiction should tell you he knows something about religion.

  • matth

    I’m a¬†follower¬†of¬†Jesus¬†Christ, and i love God…
But i still LOVE METAL.¬†In this current age of christians, we are thinking that its our actions that get us to heaven, but thats not the case… ¬†i’m not going to preach, but honestly, i feel that christians ¬†today are TOO judemental, while we have no place to jude anyone! people play the music they like, and they do what they do. and motionless in white dosent slander God in any of there music, so there not even any reason for us christians to get upset….

A great song with a even greater message!

  • shutupanddropdead<3

This video is extremely accurate. I’m a Christian, and I can honestly agree with this video. Most people think christianity means that you go to church and say “i love jesus” and then walk out and have the right to be a dick and start judging people.
WRONG. did jesus judge people? no. he let a hooker wash his feet and when the people said he was crazy, he said to leave the woman alone.
it really pisses me off that christianity has turned into just another form of judgement, because that’s not what it was meant for. it was meant for showing love for one another and accepting one another the way we all are.
as a christian and a metal-head, i think Motionless In White has got it right.

  • yay

I believe in Jesus and accept Him as my savior. In my opinion, a true Christian is a person who accepts the fact that they are so wicked and malevolent that they will go to hell. However, Jesus Christ loves us sinners so much, he humbled himself down to our level as a human (aka Jesus Christ) and died and went to hell for our sake so that, if we accept His love, we don’t have to suffer that after we die. So for a person to say that someone is going to hell like in MIW’s Immaculate Misconception, they are not a Christian. Even if they are going to hell, God forgives, gives second chances, and encourages to do better, unlike the people in the video. Those were not Christians, and I forgive everyone who acted like the “Christians” in the video because Christianity isn’t like that at all.
