Poll: Metallica’s “Black Album” Turns 20—What’s Your Favorite Song?

Today, August 13, is the 20th anniversary of the release of Metallica’s landmark self-titled fifth album. Although it faced some fierce competition (Natalie Cole, grunge), the “Black Album”—as it’s popularly known—would change heavy music as we know it, as it broke metal into the mainstream in a bigger way than any previous LP. It has since sold 30 million–plus copies worldwide and has been certified an astonishing 15 times platinum in the U.S. alone. It also contains some of Metallica’s biggest songs, including five singles that charted on Billboard‘s Hot 100, notably “Enter Sandman,” which reached No. 5. So, in the spirit of celebration and in anticipation of next month’s Big Four show, we want to know, what is your favorite song on Metallica?

20 years hey.  Seems like yesterday.  lol.  Im getting old.  Not my favorite Metallica album though.  I never listen to it.  It just doesnt come close to the first four which I do still occasionally play.

Nothing Else Matters – that was my go to anthem growing up. I’m sure my parents got sick of hearing it blaring from my room.

“Nothing Else Matters”, this song was actually used at my wedding as our first dance as husband and wife. Our wedding party was standing around us singing along loudly…just as any METALLICA song deserves to be respectively enjoyed! My guys where dressed in black in honour of metal and “The Black Album”, although I did wear a Arch Enemy cargo shirt, everyone else donned a shirt that represented 12 other great bands that I respect and have impacted my life…including Metallica!

I really like most of Metallica’s music (even St. Anger), but their 90′s output is really kind of hit and miss for me.
