Watch Pro-Shot Footage of Metallica’s First Live Performance of “The Frayed Ends of Sanity”

Remember when we posted that fan-shot footage of Metallica’s first-ever performance of “The Frayed Ends of Sanity”?

Well, screw that footage. The thrash masters have just released their own professionally shot, clip of the historic May 28 performance at the Sonisphere Festival in Helsinki, Finland.

Until that performance, “The Frayed Ends of Sanity,” which appeared on the band’s classic 1988 album …And Justice For All, was the only cut from the band’s nine-album back catalog that they’d never performed live in full.

“The Frayed Ends of Sanity” begins at the 22:30 mark in the following video.

I like how they have to talk into the mics just to hear themselves in their amplified ear monitors… even though it’s completely quiet in the tuning room.
