Video: Watch Metallica Shoot Fox Hunters While Dressed as Bears, in Response to Glastonbury Festival Controversy
Marking the first time in the 44-year history of the U.K.'s Glastonbury festival that a metal act has topped the bill (the event traditionally has more of a hippie and indie-rock vibe), Metallica performed the headlining set at the fest on Saturday night (June 28). The band's appearance as headliners had been surrounded by controversy since it was announced, particularly due to singer-guitarist James Hetfield's involvement in a Kodiak brown bear hunting series, 'The Hunt'--a petition was even started to have Metallica removed from the bill.
The band indirectly responded to the controversy by opening to their headlining performance with a Julien Temple-directed intro video showing a traditional British fox hunt who are ambushed and assassinated by the band members dressed in bear costumes. Metallica also sold the T-shirts below.
Watch the intro vid, as well as the band's entire set below, and let us know what you think in the comments.
