Zakk Wylde Performs With James Durbin on American Idol

Last night, Wednesday, April 13, Black Label Society frontman Zakk Wylde made a surprise appearance on American Idol, performing the Sammy Hagar classic “Heavy Metal” with Idol contestant James Durbin. You may remember Durbin as being the first American Idol contestant to ever sing a Judas Priest song on the show, when he belted out “You’ve Got Another Thing Comin’” earlier in the season (video here.)     That was AWESOME!!! to say the very least. My jaw dropped when I realized that was Zakk walking out on the stage with his sig Les Paul Blazing through the Marshalls. The Best bar none whoever convinced Zakk to do it….kudos and thanks!! I never get tired of hearing him play a solo.
    And to Mr. Durbin that performance kicked AI in its ass. The only thing better would be to see Zakk punch Seacrest in the face at the end !!!!! lol jk

    Great move bringing Zakk Wylde onto idol. I mean, not sure how Zakk’s fans feel, but he is quite iconic in the rock world and that performance really showed why. He’s just got a killer presence. And the other dude was not bad either :-) I hope this exposes the awesome guitar playing of Wylde to more people. Maybe it might hit a totally new demographic for Idol too, who knows.

    I almost forgot James Durbin was on the stage when Zakk walked onto it. I had nothing good to say about Mr. Durbins performance of Judas Priest, but this I have to say is pure redemption. Oh, hell yeah…give me more.

    That kicked ass! Zakk Wylde is the man and it is great to see Durbin bringing some much needed metal to American Idol. I hope he wins!
