BOOTLEG: EXCLUSIVE DÅÅTH TRACK, “SILENCED"
In our never-ending quest to give you, the reader, the best music available, we present the Revolver Bootleg series. Throughout each month, we’ll post cool, new, and often-exclusive tracks right here for you to hear before anyone else.
This installment is an as-yet-unreleased cut from progressive death-metal upstarts Dååth, off their forthcoming new album, The Concealers (Century Media), which doesn’t hit stores until April 21. As part of our unveiling of the track, titled “Silenced,” we talked to vocalist Sean Z and guitarist Eyal Levi about what makes the song so undeniably killer.
REVOLVER What’s the song “Silenced” about?
SEAN Z "Silenced" is about going to war and having everything you’ve seen and been through silenced because of government intervention. Sort of like the Russian sub Kursk that sank, and the government shut everyone and everything up to conceal the reason the nuclear sub went down. All the supporting countries knew about it and Russia said they’d attack on site anyone who tried to help their fallen comrades.
Which part of it did you come up with first? And what was the inspiration?
EYAL LEVI The song was hatched one day when drummer Kevin Talley and I decided we wanted a song that was stomping with some very deep grooves, but played with a black metal-style tonality. We were feeling the rage and needed to get it out of our systems with quite the statement. We wrote the first two minutes of the song in one afternoon. It took a good amount of tweaking because we wanted to get the minor chord slides in that verse just right, in addition to all the moments of tension and release that are sprinkled throughout.
Was this an easy song to write or record? Why or why not?
LEVI This song was definitely a labor of love to write. It’s one of those songs that came out very quickly but required a very intense focus to make sure that every last note and beat hit just right. We were in a very heightened state of mind when we wrote this. Thinking back on writing this one, it kind of felt like a tornado of creativity and brutality that just struck us and left us with this song.
How did you decide where to place “Silenced” on the album?
LEVI “Silenced” was a tough song to place because it feels like an opener. We placed it in a spot on the record where we felt Side Two on a traditional LP would start. In terms of listening on a CD, it’s in a spot where you basically get punched in the face after being gently hypnotized.
What sort of feedback have you gotten on this song so far?
LEVI It’s one of people’s favorites so far. Especially in context of the where it falls on the record.

bad ass, the overlapping bass and guitar slides towards the end is real trippy. im a big fan of bands that can take two or three notes like that and make it a highlight of the song.
