On the way to London, England
COSTA COFFEE - ALL DAY BREAKFAST PANINI

Our swampy, non-air-conditioned, carbon monoxide-permeated bus stopped at a rest stop this morning on the way to London and I picked up this little Panini. It was called "The All Day Breakfast," and on it were bacon, sausage, egg mayonnaise (what we call egg salad at home), and ketchup. It was as close to an American breakfast sandwich as I've ever gotten over here.

I don't usually go for the double-meat option as one meat is usually enough for me (I prefer Taylor Ham but unfortunately that's not available anywhere besides New Jersey), but if there's one thing I know about the UK, it's that people here love their breakfast meats. A full English breakfast can have up to five different breakfast meats on it! The sausage on this one was sliced very thin, which helped to not overwhelm the stack of bacon. It also didn't have too much of a fatty flavor to it, like English sausages usually do.

I thought that the egg mayonnaise would be weird, but it ended up working out. There was just enough mayo to make it moist, but not enough to really notice the flavor. Also, there was ketchup on it, which was a definite plus.

I've noticed that they are very guarded and skimpy about their use and distribution of ketchup over here. A lot of times at fast food places, you have to pay extra if you want ketchup. Just yesterday I had to pay 10 pence per packet.

This sandwich had even distribution of ingredients, flavorful components, and was just the right size for a morning sandwich.
