Review: Cattle Decapitation – Monolith of Inhumanity

On their fifth album, vegetarian gore-grinders Cattle Decapitation prove they’re not just Carcass worship. Vocalist Travis Ryan fully comes out of his shell with his, ahem, “melodic” “singing” and the Jeff Walker–esque tone sounds great (see “Lifestalker”). Elsewhere, the band shred harder than ever but with lots of cool twists: The insane gravity beat–led grind on “The Carbon Stampede,” unforgettable melodies on “A Living, Breathing Piece of Defecating Meat,” and fun guitar solo on the amazingly titled “Forced Gender Reassignment” show they’re continuing to progress while respecting the grindcore and death-metal parameters. The grimy, Autopsy-like sludge production is icing on the misanthropic cake. GREG PRATT

It’s the 7th full length, not the fifth. Writer should research better.
