Review: Iwrestledabearonce - Late For Nothing

IWABO’s beloved frontwoman Krysta Cameron left to have a baby and run her Etsy shop, probably the only time in metalcore history that a band’s vocalist has done so. Courtney LaPlante makes a more-than-capable substitute on the band’s third album, but IWABO are a band that prizes change for its own sake, anyway. They’re shapeshifters who see no reason why jazz, grindcore, electronica, and delicate pop melodies can’t coexist. As eccentric as these tracks are, most of them wind up in a familiar place, with clean vocals ascending to growly, thundery choruses. The most genuinely eclectic moment here? A guitar solo by definition-of-old-school Steve Vai. ALLISON STEWART
