Here, Cam Pipes (pictured left), vocalist of the power-metal band 3 Inches of Blood, selects his faves.

5. Overkill, The Electric Age
“Even after 20 or so albums, these veterans can still deliver a thrash album that puts a majority of the young buck thrash revival bands to shame. We just did a tour with them in Europe and they are not slowing down.”

4. Bison b.c., Lovelessness
“Bison b.c. stand out from the pack of all the sludgy, doomy bands out there. They are growing with each record because there’s some intangible quality that makes their riffs just that much more punishing than their peers.”

3. Accept, Stalingrad
“The last Accept album was, to me, a shockingly good return after such a long hiatus. Stalingrad continues to show why Accept still are an important band in the metal scene. As long as they keep putting out albums, I expect they will all be great.”

2. Goatwhore, Blood for the Master
“Blood for the Master is crushing as all hell. Unrelenting in its delivery. These guys never let up.”

1. Enslaved, RIITIIR
“I’m such a huge fan of this band. Every time Enslaved release a new record it makes the top of my list for the year. They’re one of the few band I expect to put out a fantastic album every time and they never let me down.”

Puscifer, the Northern Arizona-based band helmed by Maynard James Keenan (Tool, A Perfect Circle), will release an eight-song EP titled Donkey Punch The Night on February 19 via Puscifer Entertainment.

“While continuing our tradition of releasing a few new songs at a time,” explained Keenan, “I also had an itch that needed scratching, and that itch was ‘Balls To The Wall.’ Which was followed by an even harder to reach itch known as ‘Bohemian Rhapsody.’ And scratch them we did.”

The collection features two new songs written by Keenan and Puscifer cohorts Mat Mitchell, Carina Round and Josh Eustis: “Breathe” and “Dear Brother,” as well as two covers: Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” and Accept’s “Balls To The Wall.” Donkey Punch The Night was recorded in Jerome, Arizoza, in Keenan’s Caduceus Cellars (www.caduceus.org) with the same roster from 2011′s Conditions of My Parole (Keenan, Mitchell, Round, Eustis, Matt McJunkins and Jeff Friedl) and guests Zac Rae (piano), Juliette Commagere (vocals), Josh Morreau (bass) and Claire Acey (vocals).

Remixes of the four songs round-out the release with contributions from Los Angeles techno wizard Drumcell, Big Black Delta (aka Jonathan Bates, formerly of Mellowdrone and touring guitarist for M83), Sonoio (Italian multi-instrumentalist Alessandro Cortini of Modwheelmood and touring keyboard player for Muse and NIN) and Central American DJ, Silent Servant, who is well known for his mash-up of post-punk and techno.

Donkey Punch The Night track list:

1. Bohemian Rhapsody “O.G. Mix”
2. Breathe
3. Dear Brother
4. Balls To The Wall “PIllow Fight Mix”
5. Breathe “Drumcell rework”
6. Dear Brother “Denton rework” (Big Black Delta)
7. Balls To The Wall “Silent Servant El Guapo Mix”
8. Bohemian Rhapsody “Sonoio rework”

Puscifer recently announced their first tour dates outside of North America with the band performing three shows in Australia as well as performances at Lollapalooza Brazil and Lollapalooza Chile.

After releasing five albums, lineup changes and record-label issues led to their disbandment after 1999′s Grotesque Blessings. In 2010, more tragedy hit the band when original vocalist Joe Ptacek committed suicide. However, before his death, band members Jeremy Wagner and Shaun Glass spoke about resurrecting the band. Now they are moving forward and returning to the stage this fall on the Carnival of Death Tour featuring Obituary, Decrepit Birth, and Encrust. Due to Broken Hope’s comeback, we asked guitarist and lyricist Jeremy Wagner (pictured left) to select his picks for the Greatest Metal Comebacks for Revolver.

1. ACCEPT “Because after going on a super-long hiatus, Accept came back with two new, solid, albums back-to-back and have managed to reclaim their former glory not seen for decades.”

2. AT THE GATES “At the Gates disappeared fast after releasing their landmark, Slaughter of the Soul. They influenced legions of bands–especially in metalcore–and should’ve stayed the course. That said, thousands of metal fans awaited their return and got their wish when At the Gates came back stronger than ever and toured extensively to make up for lost time.”

3. LAMB of GOD “OK, LOG didn’t go away at all, but when Randy Blythe was held in a Czech prison recently, their future was put on hold–thankfully, short-lived. Randy’s mighty return to the stage with Lamb of God at the first annual Knotfest was an epic comeback under the circumstances. I was there to see it, and it did my heart good to see Randy back with Lamb of God and in the US.”

4. VOIVOD “After losing their founding member–the great guitarist, Piggy–the band regrouped and were very fortunate to find fellow Canuck, Dan Mongrain, to fill the void that Piggy left behind. Constant touring and a new album on the horizon prove that the ‘warriors of ice’ are back and built to last.”

5. BROKEN HOPE “As the founding member/chief riffer/lyricist for Broken Hope, I can testify that I never knew if we’d come back to spread our brand of relentless death metal again. After a decade of stasis and the death of our original vocalist–Joe Ptacek–the prospect of Broken Hope’s return seemed bleak. Thanks to constant support from die-hard fans, our managers, and our determination to reactivate the band, Broken Hope is a bonafide killing machine again–on tour and with new songs being written for a 2013 album. With this particular and personal comeback, I’m the happiest dude in metal right now.”
