The band's new album, Hope In Hell, will be released May 28 by The End Records!

Today, RevolverMag.com presents the exclusive premiere of “Badass Rock N Roll,” a new song by Canadian cult-metal act Anvil. The track is from the band’s new album, Hope In Hell, which will be released May 28 by The End Records.

The album shows guitarist/vocalist Steve “Lips” Kudlow, drummer Robb Reiner and their new bassist Sal Italiano in top form. “We’re really proud and already love the new album just as much as our early releases from the beginning of the ’80s, because Hope In Hell sounds like Anvil live on stage: natural, honest, unvarnished, never over-produced and straight from the heart,” Kudlow says.

Hope In Hell was written and recorded following an 18-month world tour that took Anvil around the globe. “We hadn’t expected this kind of extensive tour when we brought out Juggernaut Of Justice,” Kudlow says. “Time just flew by. I could hardly believe it when I found myself in the studio again after the tour, ready to work on the next album. The reactions to Juggernaut Of Justice and the shows had been so positive that we had plenty of ideas and inspiration for new material.”

There are some surprises on Hope In Hell, including the song we’re premiering today: “A song like ‘Badass Rock ’N’ Roll,’ with its rock and roll groove, surprised even me,” Kudlow adds. “It shows our great respect for bands like AC/DC and Motörhead. I’m sure all Anvil fans will love this song because it’s the best we’ve done in this direction.”

This may be Canadian thrashers Anvil’s 14th album, but it’s their first since the 2008 documentary Anvil! The Story of Anvil introduced them to the mainstream after decades of mostly unrewarded toil. Recognizing this, Anvil come out swinging; tracks like “When All Hell Breaks Loose,” “Turn It Up” “Running,” and “Fukeneh!” are invigoratingly thrashy tracks that radiate hunger and fire—even if Steve “Lips” Kudlow’s lyrical skills haven’t matured appreciably since his “Metal on Metal” days. Juggernaut of Justice works best when Anvil adhere to their hard-pounding old-school template; the less said about dirgey cuts like “New Orleans Voo Doo” and the seven-minute “Paranormal,” the better.
