Giraffe Tongue Orchestra—the supergroup featuring Mastodon’s Brent Hinds, Dillinger Escape Plan’s Ben Weinman, and former Jane’s Addiction bassist Eric Avery—have added drummer Jon Theodore to their lineup. Theodore has previously played with the Mars Volta and One Day as a Lion.
Theodore said that the band’s style of music was the perfect fit for him.
“When I first heard some of the ideas these guys were working on I immediately knew this project was right up my alley. Both beautiful and technical but not spastic, thematic but not cheesy, hard but delicate.”
Weinman recently discussed the group on WFMU-FM’s Diane’s Kamikaze Fun Machine radio show.
“This band has been a long time coming. Now that we have actually started creating together, it’s great to see it all materialize into what I feel is some really interesting material,” he says. “G.T.O. is a true collaborative effort, which in my experience rarely works, so I think we have something pretty special here. It just so happens to be with some of my favorite people and musicians.
“Almost every day this experiment seems to take on some new characteristic, and I think some of the people we’ve been talking to about contributing vocals would be a big surprise to many. It’s even surprised me!”

Dillinger Escape Plan guitarist Ben Weinman has contributed a remix of Lacuna Coil’s new single “Trip the Darkness” for the soundtrack to the upcoming film Underworld: Awakening. The album also features remixes of tracks from a host of other bands including Evanescence, Ministry, and Linkin Park. The bulk of the remixes have been carried out by former Nine Inch Nails multi-instrumentalist Danny Lohner, a.k.a. Renholdër.

Dillinger Escape Plan guitarist Ben Weinman has commented on the band’s recording of their upcoming fifth album. “Billy [futureusgalleryRymer, drummer] and I have been locked up in the Dillinger compound and things are starting to boil,” Weinman says. “There is nothing like that feeling when you realize… Yep, just when I thought I was drained the juices are back in full force! The neighbors are definitely getting pissed, but we couldn’t be more excited.”
Weinman also revealed that the band are releasing a limited-edition “Gold Teeth on a Bum” T-shirt in time for the holidays. The shirt will only be on offer for 24 hours, beginning at noon EST tomorrow, December 22, here. A quarter of the proceeds will go toward a charity chosen by the purchaser.
In his holiday-themed blog post Weinman said:”Dear Santa, if you give me a Dillinger Escape Plan shirt I will give you the Antidote to the poison I put in your milk., the band will be releasing a limited edition ‘Gold Teeth On A Bum’ shirt online, just in time for the holidays.”

In a blog post on the Dillinger Escape Plan website, Weinman revealed that he and Avery had already begun working on material together, while the two of them plan on doing some serous time in the studio shortly. Weinman also commented that he expects to have plenty of sessions with Hinds when their two bands hit the road this fall.
