It features such heavyweights as The Dillinger Escape Plan, Animals As Leaders, Periphery, Norma Jean, Cattle Decapitation, The Ocean, Revocation, Aeon and two bands TBA. Stay tuned over the coming weeks for official tour dates to be announced.

One of the remaining open slots will be chosen by you, the fans, so be sure to click on the link below to get in your vote now. The voting ends March 31. Head here to vote.

Ash Avildsen, founder of Summer Slaughter on this year’s edition of the tour: “It’s year seven and I think 2013′s line-up is the most exciting and diverse yet. Slaughter has never been a one dimensional experience for fans. This year is a true testament to that as we have an amazing mix of extreme music’s influential icons and leaders of the new school. Let the underground unite!”

Greg Puciato (DEP vocalist) states: “We can’t wait to get back on the road! We’re launching a US tour in the spring, hitting Europe for some festivals and club shows, and then hitting several more cities with Summer Slaughter all summer long. We are absolutely amped. After being holed up in the studio for such a long time giving birth to One of Us is the Killer, we are all pent up and ready to share material new and old with our supporters doing what we love to do the most. Can’t wait to see and either kiss or rip off each and every one of your faces on the road with Summer Slaughter and year round, everywhere.”

Here, Michael Lessard (pictured left), vocalist of the prog-metal band Last Chance to Reason, selects his faves.

5. Cattle Decapitation, Monolith of Inhumanity
“The brutality of this album and it’s ability to leave you feeling unsettled is what makes it of my favorite releases this year.”

4. Coheed and Cambria, The Afterman: Ascension
“Coheed and Cambria are one of my favorite modern rock bands, but I have been waiting for them to find their groove after drummer Josh Eppard left the band. This album marks the return of Eppard and the classic Coheed and Cambria sound.”

3. The Contortionist, Intrinsic
“I enjoy the direction The Contortionist took with this release. Nerdy lyrics fused with futuristic instrumentation serves as great formula!”

2. Brian Eno, LUX
“It has become ritual for me to end my day to the beautiful, soaring soundscapes that Brain has created on this piece of art.”

1. Frank Ocean, Channel Orange
“Frank takes such an interesting approach to pop music that I was hooked the first time I ever heard his music. The album has a great mixture of unorthodox sounds and refreshing synth tones that lend themselves nicely to Frank’s unique voice. Combining the odd vibes with the infectious melodies makes for a collection of songs that I find worth putting on repeat.”

5. Cattle Decapitation, Monolith of Inhumanity
“Production on this is so sick. Such an awesome death-metal record.”

4. Dying Fetus, Reign Supreme
“Just so fucking brutal.”

3. The Contortionist, Intrinsic
“Such an interesting progression from their first record. Progressive, melodic, mellow, and inspiring.”

2. Job For a Cowboy, Demonocracy
“I love Job For a Cowboy and this record just blew my mind. These guys keep getting better and better!”

1. The Faceless, Autotheism
“Album of the year from my first listen through. Musicianship, production, and composition in progressive death metal at it’s finest!”

On their fifth album, vegetarian gore-grinders Cattle Decapitation prove they’re not just Carcass worship. Vocalist Travis Ryan fully comes out of his shell with his, ahem, “melodic” “singing” and the Jeff Walker–esque tone sounds great (see “Lifestalker”). Elsewhere, the band shred harder than ever but with lots of cool twists: The insane gravity beat–led grind on “The Carbon Stampede,” unforgettable melodies on “A Living, Breathing Piece of Defecating Meat,” and fun guitar solo on the amazingly titled “Forced Gender Reassignment” show they’re continuing to progress while respecting the grindcore and death-metal parameters. The grimy, Autopsy-like sludge production is icing on the misanthropic cake. GREG PRATT
