“Domino The Destitute” is taken from the band’s upcoming new studio album, The Afterman: Ascension. The follow-up to 2010′s Year Of The Black Rainbow (buy on iTunes) will be released October 9, and will be followed by a second part, The Afterman: Descension in February of 2013.

“This is, without a doubt, the most honest record I’ve ever written,” said frontman Claudio Sanchez. “Though all the songs can be interpreted through our main character in the story, they were initially written in a very spontaneous manner. In the past, I’ve always had a predetermined idea of what the story was going to be when I approached the songs. With The Afterman being a new story within ‘The Amory Wars’ arc, I allowed the events of my life to drive the concept, and therefore opened up the songwriting to a fuller degree.”

The release will be divided up into two separate releases. The first of which, titled The Afterman: Ascension, is slated to land on October 9, with “The Afterman: Descension tentatively due in February.

Conceptually, The Afterman once again sees the band exploring their alternate world, “Heaven’s Fence.” The album’s lyrics center around the character Sirius Amory, a scientist.

“This is, without a doubt, the most honest record I’ve ever written,” said frontman Claudio Sanchez. “Though all the songs can be interpreted through our main character in the story, they were initially written in a very spontaneous manner.
Coheed and Cambria’s last full-length effort was 2010′s Year Of The Black Rainbow (buy on iTunes).

The band has since updated the recent newsletter to calrify that the recordings sessions over the holiday were in fact for Tool drummer Danny Carey’s side project VOLTO! (Carey is pictured second from left) and not Tool. The newsletter does add that the group is still making progress writing and arranging songs for a new Tool album, the follow-up to 2006′s 10,000 Days.

On their sixth album, 3 don’t offer any surprises. Which, for this gaggle of overachievers, means melodic ’80s-style hard rock, calypso beats, and technical prog–all within the first song. This album should get the band past the Coheed and Cambria comparisons that follow them around: The Ghost You Gave to Me has chops and memorable songs galore, as highlight tunes “High Times” and “Pretty” prove, all of which go to define 3′s distinct identity. Despite the vibe getting dark at times, the record is also jubilant, as if 3 are happy to have finally reached the perfect (and perfectly perplexing) middle ground between ambitious lonely-guy prog songwriting and ballsy rockin’ good times.
