House of Gold & Bones, Part 2, the new album from Stone Sour, rocketed onto the charts this week, exceeding the strong first week sales of Part 1. Part 1 arrived just six months ago and debuted at No. 7 on the album chart. Part 2 ups the ante, and in the process becomes the bands fourth consecutive album to debut in the Top 10.

House of Gold & Bones, Part 2 is the second installment and conclusion to the group’s House of Gold & Bones two-part concept album, which follows a linear storyline written by singer Corey Taylor. The House of Gold & Bones campaign is a multi-media approach: radio, touring, an accompanying comic series, online and video components, fan engagement campaigns and more.

Revolver wrote: “Stone Sour deliver their best record yet with the second half to their ambitious concept double album.” Loudwire proclaimed that House of Gold & Bones Part 2 stands firmly on its own as one of early 2013′s best albums,” while ArtistDirect hailed the collection as, “an epic for the ages and one of the greatest rock records of all time.” The lead single, “Do Me A Favor,” is No. 8 at Active Rock and climbing (Stone Sour’s last single “Absolute Zero” was No. 1 for three weeks).

News of the album’s explosive arrival follows a flurry of recent headline-making moves for the multi-platinum band, who are headlining the “Revolver Road To The Golden Gods” tour with In This Moment and Hell or Highwater. The tour is set to culminate with a performance from Stone Sour at the 5th Annual Revolver Golden Gods Awards presented by Epiphone, on May 2 at Los Angeles’ Club Nokia, where they are nominated for three awards: “Best Vocalist,” “Album of the Year” for House of Gold & Bones Pt. 1 and “Best Drummer” for Roy Mayorga. In other news, the first issue of House of Gold & Bones (Dark Horse Comics) is available today. Written by Taylor, the comic book follows and expands on the story contained within the two part album, and features stunning covers from Jason Shawn Alexander (Empty Zone, Batman, Abe Sapien). This limited four-issue series marks Taylor’s debut in the comics genre. Copies of Issue No. 1 are available now via Dark Horse Comics’ webstore.

Supporting Stone Sour will be hard rockers In This Moment and Hell or Highwater. The dates get underway April 2 at the State Theatre in Portland, ME and culminate with a performance at the 5th Annual Revolver Golden Gods Awards presented by Epiphone® on May 2 at Club Nokia in Los Angeles.

“It started out with me hitting the wrong chord on a guitar, and it had such a great vibe to it that I ended up turning what I came up with into the main riff for the song. The song’s about fighting off pessimism and trying to reach for positivity and being brave enough to make a decision and stick with it.”

“Do Me a Favor”
“The song was much bluesier when we first put it together and our producer, David Bottrill, said, ‘I’m not sure if this enhances the album.’ So Josh and Jim shredded it up and gave it a much darker edge that made the choruses explode in a wonderful way. When I heard it, I started writing the character of Alan, who is this snarky asshole, into the story. He creates this sense of cynicism and mocks the positivity that has been building up at that point in the story.”

“The House of Gold & Bones 2”
“That was the last song we wrote. We had everything else and we knew we needed that period at the end of the sentence. The great thing about it is it ends ambiguously. The main character has made his decision but it’s unclear what it is. The important thing is that he stood his ground and hopefully he’s happier because of it, but I wanted to leave it in the hands of listeners to decide what choice he has made.” AS TOLD TO JON WIEDERHORN

The song will appear on Sound City: Real To Reel, the soundtrack to Grohl’s upcoming documentary, Sound City. The track also features Cheap Trick guitarist Rick Nielsen and bassist Scott Reeder, formerly of Kyuss. The soundtrack also includes contributions from Stevie Nicks, Trent Reznor, Rick Springfield, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk of Rage Against the Machine, Joshua Homme of Queens of the Stone Age, and more.

Stone Sour and Papa Roach have announced the first string of dates for a co-headlining 2013 tour. Dates for the trek, which kicks off on January 20 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, can be found below.

Stone Sour released their latest album — and the first half of a double concept-album — House of Gold & Bones Part 1, in October. Part two is due out in Spring of 2013.

It was announced earlier this week that frontman Corey Taylor would also be pinning a comic book also titled House of Gold and Bones, that will go along with the band’s upcoming two albums.

“I’ve been a die-hard fan of comics, on every level, my entire life,” Taylor says. “This has been a dream of mine for years now, and this project was tailor made for a comic, no pun intended. I couldn’t have picked a better company than Dark Horse to make this a reality. I have loved several of their titles for many years, going back to ’92. If we can get this crazy world out of my head and onto the canvas, it’ll be the best thing I’ve ever attempted. And with Dark Horse, I have every confidence that’s exactly what we’ll do.”

The first disc of House of Gold and Bones is out October 22 on Roadrunner.
