The fifth annual REVOLVER GOLDEN GODS AWARD SHOW presented by Epiphone has gotten even bigger with the announcement of a special performance by Danzig, including a special Misfits set with Doyle, along with appearances by some of the biggest names in hard rock and heavy metal. Taking place Thursday, May 2 at Club Nokia in Downtown Los Angeles, the sold-out event will be broadcast live on national television for the first time through AXS TV and broadcast in the United States and key international markets through Xbox LIVE^®* and Revolver’s Facebook page.  In addition, May 2 will be declared “Golden Gods Day” in the City of Los Angeles, with Councilwoman Jan Perry opening the show with an official proclamation.

Danzig will take the stage at this year’s show with fellow Misfit legend Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein for a very special live Misfits set. The highly anticipated performance joins previously announced live sets by Metallica, Five Finger Death Punch, Anthrax, Stone Sour, The Dillinger Escape Plan and Halestorm. As always, the 2013 REVOLVER GOLDEN GODS AWARDS SHOW will feature one-of-a-kind surprise collaborations that honor the past, present and future of heavy music.

In addition to the not-to-be-missed performance lineup, this year’s show will feature appearances by some of the biggest names in hard rock and heavy metal.  The list includes Gene Simmons, Lemmy Kilmister of Motörhead, Alice Cooper, Marilyn Manson, Phil Anselmo, Jason Newsted, Zakk Wylde, Kerry King of Slayer, Munky and Brian “Head” Welch of Korn, Taylor Momsen, David Draiman of Disturbed and Device, David Ellefson and Chris Broderick of Megadeth, Heaven’s Basement, Testament and In This Moment.

FOZZY frontman and WWE pro-wrestling legend Chris Jericho will reprise his role as host for the fourth consecutive year.  Returning as well is the “Black Carpet” pre-show special, which will be hosted by iconic heavy-metal frontman Sebastian Bach and Sirius XM’s Jose Mangin. The special will air on AXS TV, Xbox LIVE and Revolver’s Facebook page. The Xbox LIVE broadcast will unite viewers around the world with the hash tag #XboxGoldenGods. Tweets with this hash tag will run across the bottom of Xbox LIVE members’ screens throughout the “Black Carpet” and the awards show. The Xbox LIVE broadcast will also integrate unique second screen experiences on smartphones and tablets through the free Xbox SmartGlass app.

Fans everywhere were given the opportunity to vote to help decide who will take home the awards for “Best Guitarist” (presented by Epiphone^®), “Best Drummer” (presented by Drum Workshop^®), “Best Vocalist” (presented by Rockstar Energy Drink^®), “Album of the Year” (presented by Orange Amplification^®), “Song of the Year,” “Best Live Band” (presented by Samson^®/Zoom^®), “Best New Talent” (presented by Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival^®), “Most Metal Athlete” (presented by Roadrunner Records^®),  “Comeback of the Year” (presented by Eagle Rock^®), “Paul Gray Best Bassist” (presented by Dean Markley^®)  and “Most Dedicated Fans” (presented by Xbox LIVE). Voting ended on April 15 with over 3.25 million fans weighing in, and the results will be unveiled live during the show.

This year’s Golden God Award (presented by Sumerian Records^®), which is given to one special honoree a year who embodies the spirit of hard rock and metal, will go to Rob Zombie.  Performers and hard-rock icons Metallica will receive the Ronnie James Dio Lifetime Achievement Award (presented by Ernie Ball^®), and the Riff Lord Award (presented by EMG Pickups^®), given each year to a legendary guitarist in the field of hard rock and heavy metal, will go to none other than Black Sabbath axman Tony Iommi.

Also, the first-ever Revolver Road to the Golden Gods Tour, featuring Stone Sour, In This Moment and Hell or Highwater, is crossing the country right now. The multi-city national tour kicked off in March and will conclude at the 2013 Revolver Golden Gods Awards Show.

Nothing on here is as catchy, focused, and undeniably awesome as ‘Spheres of Madness,’ but there are plenty of the band’s signature twisty tech riffs, manic polyrhythms, and general brutality. Good to have you back, guys.”

WhoCares, “Out of My Mind”/“Holy Water”
“New music by a supergroup consisting of Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi, Deep Purple’s Ian Gillan, Jason Newsted formerly of Metallica, and Iron Maiden’s Nicko McBrain, among others? Count me in! I’ve been listening to the clips since they leaked, and I now have the full songs and can’t stop listening to them. They were written by Iommi and definitely sound more like his solo album than anything he’s done with Sabbath or Heaven & Hell. Gillan sounds great, too. Best part of it all is, proceeds from the tracks go to rebuilding a music school in Armenia.”

Marduk, Iron Dawn EP
“After Marduk’s ridiculously disappointing 2007 album, Rom 5:12, the Swedish black-metal group got my attention again on 2009’s Wormwood. The new EP, containing three songs that apparently don’t relate to the concept the band have for the next album, due in 2012, has the same aggression as Wormwood—and it’s even produced a little better (guitarist Evil sounds evil again)—but vocalist Mortuus’s gurgle-voice is noticeably more off-putting now that you can hear it better.”

“This German black-metal group has never innovated much, and they don’t create anything new on this, their seventh full-length, which comes out Tuesday. What they do well, however, is create a tense, dark, unpleasant mood that occasionally complements my day. The guitar tone reminds me of prime-era Dissection, and frontman Zingultus’s pained screams, specifically on ‘The Deepest Place on Earth,’ remind me of the frustrated complaints Peter Steele yelped out in Carnviore. For a bad time, call these guys.”

“Man, I love Agoraphobic Nosebleed! Last years Agorapocalypse was easily one of my favorite albums of 2010! This has a bit more of the classic power violence you expect from ANB and it destroys. I love listening to Scott Hull riff out. He is a total riff master. The Despise You stuff is great as well, their first material in 10 years.”

“Man, I have been waiting to hear the new record from Poland’s Decapitated ever since I heard they had entered the studio with a new lineup. After the untimely passing of drum powerhouse Witold ‘Vitek’ Kieltyka, I was curious to hear what guitarist (and Vitek’s brother) Waclaw ‘Vogg’ Kieltyka was going to come out with. Man, it’s great! Easily the most complicated and mature Decapitated music I have heard! Great stuff, more hardcore, less death, and just plain awesome!”

Revolver Magazine's Mayhem Fest "Monster Issue" (July/August 2010) is on newsstands now, featuring four collectible "horror" covers featuring the frontmen of the tour's main-stage headliners: Jonathan Davis of Korn, Rob Zombie, Randy Blythe of Lamb of God, and Ivan Moody of Five Finger Death Punch. Hard rockers Danzig will release their first album in six years, Deth Red Sabaoth (the End), on June 22. Glenn Danzig himself produced and recorded it in Los Angeles over the course of 2009. Song titles include “Black Candy,” “The Revengeful,” “On a Wicked Night” and a two-part song called “Pyre of Souls.”

“I think that fans will really dig this new album,” Glenn said in a statement. “I’ve been told several times that the album has a cool vitality to it, that it sounds energized, and I got that feeling when I was recording it. I wanted to have an organic sound, bigger and thicker, so I went out and bought some 1970s Kustom tuck ’n’ roll bass amps to play some of the guitar parts through. You’ll hear real reverb, real tremolo on this album, which sounds completely different than the stuff that's done with computer chips."

The Danzig band on this record includes guitarist Tommy Victor (Prong, Ministry), a Danzig cohort on and off since 1996, and drummer Johnny Kelly (Type O Negative, Seventh Void).  While Kelly has toured with Glenn intermittently since 2002, this is the first time he has recorded with the band. Glenn played bass on most of the album, and played drums on "Black Candy."

The album art (below) is by award-winning artist Joe Chiodo, whose work has graced not only Danzig’s Verotik publishing line but also the covers of numerous graphic novels and comic books, including X-Men Unlimited. Chiodos previously painted a “good girl” pinup that was included in 2007’s The Lost Tracks of Danzig.

The recording group, joined by bassist Steve Zing—also an original member of Samhain with Glenn—plan to tour extensively to support Deth Red Sabaoth. Dates will be announced shortly.
