Just ask vocalist-guitarist Danko Jones (pictured left) of the hard-rock group also named Danko Jones, who will release their new album, Rock and Roll Is Black and Blue, on October 9. “I’ve always had a fondness for people named Dave or David,” he says. “Whether it’s the Space Lord, Dave Wyndorf of Monster Magnet, rock pioneer David Johansen of The New York Dolls or wild man David Yow of The Jesus Lizard, I’ve always rocked out to Davids.” Here he compiles his list of the Top Five Daves.
5. David Bowie “Why isn’t David No. 1? Because of the brief time he changed his name to Ziggy Stardust. It tarnished the brand for Davids everywhere. But you can’t argue with his impeccable Low album.”
4. Dave Lombardo, Slayer “‘Nuff said. How many people wish they came up with that drum break in ‘Angel Of Death’ or the intro to ‘Criminally Insane’? Everybody.”

Van Halen have revealed the track listing for their upcoming album, A Different Kind of Truth. The record marks the first recording with frontman David Lee Roth since the classic 1984. Van Halen will also be heading out on a North American tour, beginning February 18.

Van Halen have revealed details of their 2012 North American tour, as well as confirming that their new album, A Different Kind of Truth, will be released on February 7. The announcement was made during the band’s intimate performance at New York City’s Cafe Wha? last night. You can view pictures from the show here.
The tour kicks off on February 18, running through until June, with the first tickets going on sale as early as January 14. Kool and the Gang will join Van Halen for select dates.
A Different Kind of Truth represents the first album with frontman David Lee Roth since the classic 1984. The first single from the new record, “Tattoo,” as well as its accompanying video will debut on January 10. Album preorders will also begin that day.

Van Halen will be getting an early start on their 2012 reunion tour by playing at New York City’s Cafe Wha? this Thursday. The Greenwich Village club only holds 250 people, with journalists across the city being invited to view the anticipated 45-minute set, according to Rolling Stone. The occasion marks the first time frontman David Lee Roth will perform with the band since the end of their last reunion tour, in 2008.
While the intimate Cafe Wha? maybe seem like a surprise venue for the band’s return, it has special resonance for Roth, whose uncle Manny Roth once owned the historic club.
Although details on Van Halen’s new album have been scarce, the band recently released an image containing the date 2.7.12.
