Dan Donegan, guitarist for Disturbed, has unveiled his new project, Fight or Flight. Fight or Flight will release their debut album, A Life by Design? on July 23rd via Warner Bros. Records. The first single, “First of the Last” will be hits radio May 21st. You can listen to a sample of it at the bottom of this post.

“During our hiatus from Disturbed, the separation anxiety from the fans came rather quickly,” explains Donegan. He began writing songs on his own, and last year connected with Dan Chandler, frontman for the band Evan’s Blue, about a possible collaboration. The two emailed each other songs back and forth and met in person whenever Chandler was in Donegan’s hometown of Chicago. When they had enough material to record, Donegan turned to his “Disturbed brother of over 20 years,” drummer Mike Wengren and the three entered the studio.

The result is a collection of hypnotic and hard-hitting songs fortified by Donegan’s trademark riffing and Chandler’s melodic sensibility. Ra’s Sean Corcoran on bass and backing vocals, and Jeremy Jayson on guitar and backing vocals complete Fight of Flight’s lineup.

“This is more hard rock,” Donegan affirms. “It’s got edgy moments, but there’s more melody across the board. We had the chance to experiment as well. There are acoustic guitars and some electronics even. It’s different all around.” Of the first single “First of the Last,” he says, “It’s one of the more driving tracks on the record, and it’s got my signature style. Lyrically, it’s more cryptic. Dan and I spent a lot of time discussing conspiracy theories, and those conversations inspired the song.”

In this exclusive video made for Revolver, Disturbed and Device vocalist David Draiman discusses how and why he recruited Halestorm singer Lzzy Hale for Device’s new remake of “Close My Eyes Forever,” which was originally recorded by Lita Ford and Ozzy Osbourne.

Lzzy Hale was “the right woman to play the role of Lita,” Draiman says in the video, which features the other members of Device. “Lzzy is the strongest, most distinctive female voice in rock today. I think she’s just as good as it gets.”

Besides Hale, Device’s long-awaited debut album will feature Glenn Hughes of Deep Purple and Black Country Communion, Geezer Butler of Black Sabbath, Tom Morello and a host of other talented musicians and friends.

Check out the video below!

Device will release their debut album this spring. Look out for more updates as we get them! (And we will be getting them!)

In this exclusive Revolver video, Disturbed vocalist David Draiman discusses the reasons behind Disturbed’s hiatus and why his new industrial band, Device, is free of the confines of “what Disturbed had to be.”

The hiatus was a matter of “stepping away from something that basically took up our entire lives for 16 years, and letting it breath for a while, and letting it sleep,” Draiman says in the clip.

Check out the rest of the video, which features all of Device, below.

In anticipation of the upcoming Rock & Roll Roast of Dee Snider, we asked Disturbed vocalist David Draiman to share his thoughts on the man of the hour — Snider himself.

Here’s Draiman, shown with his Device bandmates Will Hunt and Virus, praising the Twisted Sister frontman, calling him one of hard rock’s “most enigmatic” frontmen. See what else the band says in the video below.
