Installment No. 3 of four weekly exclusive live studio videos from Texas hard rockers Drowning Pool brings us another deep cut and the title track to the band’s 2001 breakout debut, Sinner, which also features the hit “Bodies.” “Sinner” again gives new lead singer Jasen Moreno a chance to show his range and breadth. With “Bodies” and “Sinner,” the album spurred recurring rounds on Ozzfest and solidified the band as a hard-rock act to watch. Ten years later, Drowning Pool will be releasing Resilience, their fifth studio album and first with Moreno, on April 9.

Since the 2002 death of original lead singer Dave Williams, this Texan quartet has endured a revolving door of singers and yet managed to produce consistently killer albums with an unmistakable sound. This continues with album No. 5, featuring vocalist No. 4 in new guy Jasen Moreno. His bark propels stompers like “Anytime Anyplace,” “Life of Misery,” and “Broken Again,” which blow through the front door like an angry bull. The weakest songs here are the singles: “One Finger and a Fist” is full of unconvincing declarations of being “hardcore,” and “Saturday Night” is an awkward attempt at a party song. Otherwise, Drowning Pool prove resilient once again. JEREMY BORJON

Video No. 2 for our four-part series from Drowning Pool offers a new cut from the Texas rockers’ upcoming release, Resilience (due out April 9th). Promoting good times, “Saturday Night” is a departure from the band’s signature aggression on hits like “Bodies” and “Step Up.” New lead singer Jasen Moreno says, “‘Saturday Night’ is a raucous, rowdy, and rousing headbanger about touring life.

Drowning Pool have announced that singer Ryan McCombs has left the band. McCombs had been the vocalist since taking over from Jason Jones in 2005, who joined the band following the death of original frontman Dave Williams.

“We have always been a band who has gained success despite having multiple singers…maybe we suffer from reverse ‘lead singer’s disease,’” guitarist C.J. Pierce says. “Changing things up has not always been easy, but the band has become reenergized time and time again. We are looking to find a new singer who will give both us and, and most importantly our fans, the new adrenaline shot they deserve. We do wish Ryan great success in his future endeavors.”

While the band actively seeks a new singer, they have already begun writing their fifth album in their hometown of Dallas.

Also, artists including Avenged Sevenfold, Disturbed, Godsmack, Staind, and Shinedown recount their experiences on U.S.O. tours abroad, and members of Tool, All That Remains, and others share stories of their times serving in the military.
