Deep Purple have officially announced a new studio album set for release next year. The as-yet-untitled follow-up to 2005′s Rapture Of The Deep is due in late April.
After being written mainly in Europe, the disc was recorded and mixed in Nashville, Tennessee, with producer Bob Ezrin. Song titles will include “Out Of Hand,” “Hell To Pay,” “Weirdistan,” “Uncommon Man” and “Above And Beyond,” the last of which being a tribute to the band’s longtime keyboard player Jon Lord, who passed away earlier this year.
As for the lack of a title, Ian Gillan had this to say earlier this month: “The title of our new album is still a question mark to all of us … We have recorded a new album, and it’s a fantastic collection of songs. At the moment that’s the only affirmative point we can offer …”

After releasing a charity single last year, Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi and Deep Purple’s Ian Gillan have announced the details of the upcoming debut album from their joint project, WhoCares.
The two-disc set will include two original WhoCares tracks, along with an unreleased Deep Purple jam; a track from Gillan’s pre-Deep Purple band Repo Dep), two previously unreleased songs from Tony Iommi featuring Glenn Hughes and “obscure collaborations, B-sides lost on 7-inch.” You can view the full track listing below.
WhoCares’ debut album is due out August 28 via earMUSIC.

WhoCares, the supergroup that re-joins Deep Purple’s Ian Gillan and Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi, have announced the release of their debut single in North America on July 27 via Eagle Rock. The single features two new tracks, “Out of My Mind” and “Holy Water,” and will raise money for a project to rebuild a music school in Armenia that was destroyed in a 1988 earthquake. The single will also include a music video for “Out of My Mind” and a documentary about Iommi’s involvement in the Armenian charity. Iommi and Gillan haven’t worked together since Sabbath’s 1983 album Born Again. The supergroup includes Iron Maiden drummer Nicko McBrain, ex-Metallica bassist Jason Newsted, Deep Purple keyboardist Jon Lord, and HIM guitarist Mikko “Linde” Lindstrom.
