Dave Grohl has become the latest rocker to sound off against allowing Fox’s musical-theater–inspired series Glee use his music. The Foo Fighters frontman came out swinging when an interviewer at South By Southwest asked him about his refusal to allow the band’s music to be used on the show. “It’s every band’s right. You shouldn’t have to do fucking Glee,” said Grohl, who seems to take more issue with the show’s creator Ryan Murphy than the show itself, adding: “And then the guy who created Glee is so offended that we’re not, like, begging to be on his fucking show… Fuck that guy for thinking anybody and everybody should want to do Glee.” It’s not like the singer-guitarist hasn’t given the show a fair chance either, saying “I watched 10 minutes. It’s not my thing.”
Grohl isn’t the first rocker to take issue with Glee or its creator. Slash called the show “worse than Grease,“ and refused to let the show use any songs from the Guns N’ Roses back catalog. Kings of Leon ignited a war of words with Ryan Murphy after declining to have their song “Use Somebody” appear on the show, which ended in Murphy accusing the band of being “self-centered assholes” and “homophobes.” Way to take the high road.
