Video: Alice Cooper Covers Lady Gaga at Bonnaroo

At this past weekend’s Bonnaroo festival in Manchester, Tennessee, veteran shock rocker Alice Cooper threw fans a curveball by covering “Born This Way” by pop songstress Lady Gaga. You can watch video footage of the performance below.

It should come as no surprise that Cooper would choose to cover Lady Gaga, as he called the pop star “the female Alice Cooper” in an interview last year.

“She totally gets it,” he said. “She created a character named Lady Gaga and wrote songs for Lady Gaga, just as I write songs for Alice. But when you meet her offstage, she’s nothing like that person… and neither am I.”

Alice Cooper released his latest album, Welcome 2 My Nightmare, last September.

Last night, Lady Gaga checked in via her Twitter from backstage at the Iron Maiden concert in Tampa, Florida. She posted the picture below, which features the pop singer striking a pose with Maiden drummer Nicko McBrain with a caption that simply said “Sexy Beast. 666.” Lady Gaga is quickly racking up some metal credentials, recently appearing in photos with Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante and this year’s Golden God award recipient, Alice Cooper. Earlier today, Lady Gaga checked into her Twitter with the picture below of her and this year’s Golden God award recipient (and possibly her bloody clothing fashion influence) Alice Cooper. The caption read, “I just died and went to Hell,” and we can only imagine b0th have wanted to meet each other for a while. A reporter at Noisecreep told Cooper Friday about how Gaga, a noted metal fan who recently met up with Anthrax’s Charlie Benante, has cited him as an influence. “There were these certain women through history that were so outrageous,” he replied. “They were more outrageous than men because they were women doing in. Lady Gaga is in that world, you know.”

Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante and his daughter attended the Lady Gaga concert last night in Chicago, eventually ending up backstage to take this gem of a photo. “Gaga gave Anthrax a big shout-out tonight. She treated my daughter like a little queen and proved again that she is a metalhead at heart!,” said Benante.

According to reports, the opening DJ played songs by Anthrax, Metallica, Iron Maiden, and Faith No More.
