Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo has revealed that the band have commenced work on a new record. Speaking to Gulf News, while on tour in Abu Dhabi, Trujillo commented:
“We’ve been busy writing and recording. We’ve got a couple of new songs we have been working on the past couple of weeks. The writing process for the new Metallica album has begun. We’ve been in the studio with Rick Rubin, working on a couple of things, and we’re going to be recording during the most of next year.”
Metallica’s collaboration record with Lou Reed, Lulu, will be released on November 1, however the thrash icons have been quick to stress that the album does not represent the band’s follow-up to 2008′s Death Magnetic.
Trujillo continued by saying “For me, personally, Death Magnetic was the launch pad for the next record. This is the beginning of something very, very cool.”

Metallica and Lou Reed, who are collaborating on the upcoming album Lulu, have released lyrics to one of the record’s tracks, “Dragon.” Lulu will be released in North America on November 1.
The album’s themes are inspired by two early 19th century plays by German expressionist writer Frank Wededkind. Earth Spirit and Pandora’s Box tell the tale of a “young abused dancer’s life and relationships,” according to the collaboration’s website.

Metallica frontman James Hetfield recently conducted an interview for MTV2′s Headbangers Ball with host Jose Mangin. The chat took place just before the band’s appearance at the historic Big Four concert at New York City’s Yankee Stadium on September 14.
Hetfield discusses the possibility of future Big Four shows, Metallica’s collaboration with Lou Reed, and the band’s upcoming 30th anniversary concerts in San Francisco this December.

More details have been revealed regarding the musical collaboration project between Metallica and Lou Reed about their upcoming album. In a statement released on their website, it was revealed that the record will be titled Lulu and is scheduled for a November 1 release in North America. The title, and indeed the album itself, is inspired by two early 19th century plays by German expressionist writer Frank Wededkind. “Earth Spirit” and “Pandora’s Box” tell the tale of a “young abused dancer’s life and relationships,” according to the statement.
The combo, who appear to have dubbed themselves “Loutallica,” have also released titles for three of the ten tracks that will feature on LuLu. They are “Junior Dad,” “Mistress Dread,” and “Pumping Blood.”

The release of Metallica’s and Lou Reed’s forthcoming collaborative studio album came a step closer with the launch of a website for the project. While it is sure to provoke much excitement, currently the website simply amounts to a landing page, which you can view at loureedmetallica.com.
It was revealed back in June that the thrash legends and the ex-Velvet Underground avant-garde extraordinaire would be teaming up after they were spotted together on a number of occasions.
According to a Metallica statement, at the time, 10 songs were recorded; however, it remains to be seen when the album will see the light of day. Metallica concluded their record deal with Warner Brothers following the release of Death Magnetic, and Reed is also currently without a label.
Metallica and Reed initially joined forces for the 25th Anniversary Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Concert in October, 2009. Right now we’ll have to settle for this video:
