Avenged Sevenfold frontman M. Shadows has revealed that he underwent knee surgery earlier this year. Speaking to the U.K.’s Kerrang! magazine, Shadows said the procedure was necessary to correct a joint problem.
“I had knee surgery because I was in pain all the time; I was wearing knee braces onstage,” he explained. “But finally it’s fixed.”
Shadows was recently featured as one of Revolver‘s “100 Greatest Living Rock Stars” in our mega 100th issue, out now.

Avenged Sevenfold have announced that they will be performing a free show at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, CA, on December 16. Fans who had tickets for the Rockstar Energy Drink Uproar Festival stop at the Shoreline Ampitheatre in Mountain View, CA, last month are guaranteed entrance and will get first pick of seats. A7X were forced to miss the Uproar show, and frontman M. Shadows says the band was eager to ensure Bay Area fans didn’t miss out on seeing them perform.
“We appreciate our fans so much and felt terrible that we had to miss the Uproar show in October,” Shadows says. ”We want to make it up to those in the Bay Area by adding this free show to our ‘Buried Alive’ tour and making sure that anyone who was supposed to see us that night in Northern California will get the best seats in the house.”
Those who purchased tickets for the Mountain View show will receive an e-mail with redemption details. Fans who purchased in cash or at the venue can click here and enter their e-mail address. These tickets will be available one week ahead of the general public beginning today at 10 a.m. PT.
