Danish rockers Volbeat have confirmed that Mercyful Fate guitarist Hank Shermann will act as stand-in on the upcoming Gigantour, which kicks off next month. The announcement comes after former guitarist Thomas Bredahl left the band last month.
Frontman Michael Poulsen had the following to say about the recruitment of Shermann, who recently joined Metallica onstage for their 30th anniversary shows:
“It’s a true honor getting to work with Hank, whose guitar work has inspired all three band members long before Volbeat was formed. I’m very thankful that Hank has the time to join us on Gigantour in his busy schedule.”

A day after Iced Earth’s Jon Schaffer met up with and revealed plans to collaborate with Volbeat’s Michael Poulsen, today Schaffer has posted a video with Blind Guardian frontman Hansi Kürsch stating that their will be another Demons and Wizards album. Demons and Wizards is the side project of Schaffer and Kürsch that has thus far produced two albums.

Volbeat frontman Michael Poulsen and Iced Earth guitarist-songwriter Jon Schaffer have announced plans to collaborate at some point in the future. Megadeth, who released new album, Th1rt3en, today, have announced the tour dates for their Gigantour, which also features Motörhead, Volbeat, and Lacuna Coil. It kicks off on January 26 in Camden, New Jersey, and will run through February 28, ending in Denver. The full dates are below.
Motörhead frontman, Lemmy Kilmister, spoke of his excitement gearing up for the tour.
“We’ve done festivals in Europe with Lacuna Coil and they’re workaholics as well!” Lemmy stated. “Volbeat are great too; the whole bill is pretty diverse and I advise everyone who likes being deaf, and/or can lip-read already, to come out and see what the stuff that doesn’t get any MTV Video Awards sounds like! Gigantour is just that!”
Volbeat vocalist-guitarist Michael Poulsen explained that the tour presented an unmissable opportunity.
“This is something you don’t think twice about; it’s a must and a blessing,” Poulsen said. “They [futureusgalleryMegadeth and Motörhead] are two of the world’s biggest/best and most important bands in heavy rock history. Cristina Scabbia, vocalist for Lacuna Coil, who are returning for their second Gigantour, also spoke of her excitement.
