PND is what thrash metal should sound like in 2013,” says Brecht. “Working together with some of the members of Texas based cult band Deadhorse, we have come up with some hard-hitting tunes that span genres and will withstand the test of time. I can’t wait to take the Pasadena Napalm Division machine on the road in support of our first LP on Minus Head Records.”The 13-song self-titled release was recorded at the Music Lab in Austin and features guest vocals from Tony Foresta (Municipal Waste) and Argo (Dead Horse).

Contributing writer Chris Krovatin checks out the Metal Alliance tour on 4/20 and lives to tell the tale!

Chris Krovatin is the author of three young adult novels, Heavy Metal & You, Venomous, and Gravediggers: Mountain of Bones. He is currently working on multiple new writing projects, as well as new material with his local New York metal band Flaming Tusk. He is a contributing writer for Revolver and generally comes off as a good-natured pain in everyone’s collective ass. This piece below represents his opinions–and probably only his opinions.

Irving Plaza, New York. Saturday, April 20.

Date of this concert: 4/20.
And how are we today: Dave’s not here, man.
Journalists’ favorite thing to hear at a will-call window: “You’re not on any of the lists we have.”
Even better: “Absolutely, sorry for the inconvenience,” 15 minutes later.
Backpatch of the night: The one of spiraling Pantera logos, on the back of a chick.
Cost of a 24 oz. Bud Light tall boy at Irving Plaza: $13.
Cost of a Genesee Cream Ale: $5.
Number of Genesees consumed upon arrival: 3.
How you doing there, buddy: What’s a buddy?
First up: Holy Grail from California.
Sounds like: Just, man, just fucking great.
Surprise of the night: While not my favorite record, Holy Grail’s latest, Ride the Void, sounds absolutely awesome live.
Favorite Holy Grail track of the night: The always-awesome closer, “Fight to Kill.”
Favorite piece of merch available: Municipal Waste’s shirt featuring a chick shotgunning a beer through some dude’s perforated head.
Least favorite aspect of Irving Plaza: The No Re-Entry policy. Such horseshit.
Second least favorite aspect of Irving Plaza: The lukewarm half-bunned hot dog I’m forced to eat due to aforementioned No Re-Entry policy.
Up next: Shadows Fall from Massachusetts.
Band Shadows Fall is replacing on this tour, on 4/20: High on Fire.
Resulting emotion: I hate you, Shadows Fall. I hate you more than any band, ever.
Even Megadeth?: I could never hate a band more than Megadeth.
Brilliant observation of the night: Shadows Fall frontman Brian Fair’s dreads must be cumbersome to headbang like that.
Sad moment of the night: What, no “Crushing Belial?” No “Fleshhold?”
Favorite crowd spotting of the night: Municipal Waste’s Tony Forresta, charging past me. Huh, dude looks pissed.
What Tony Forresta is probably pissed about: This BULLSHIT NO RE-ENTRY POLICY, most likely.
On that note, we have: Municipal Waste from Richmond, Virginia.
Headbanger: Face rip.
Number of seconds into the Waste’s set before a cloud of smoke rises from the crowd: 2.6.
Number of dugout hits taken: 5.
What’s going on, man: Everyone’s beautiful. Thrash metal is just so fucking beautiful.
Favorite Municipal Waste track of the set: The crushing power of “The Thrashin’ of the Christ.”
Interesting stage banter: Tony Forresta calling Anthrax “the hometown heroes.” I never think of Anthrax as a New York band these days.
Reasons for not thinking of Anthrax as an NYC band: 40% Scott Ian living in LA, 60% Joey Belladonna’s tan.
Tip for the burgeoning partier: Headbanging plus multiple beers plus herbal refreshment equals feeling like you’re going to pass out midway through a show.
Follow-up tip: Never get old.
Two left, next we got: Exodus.
From: New Zealand. The Bay Area, you fucking mook.
Hilarious sight of the night: A bunch of sweaty thrashers throwing up the horns and screaming the phrase “SADO-SEXUAL VIOLEEEENCE!”
Catty observation of the night: Frontman Rob Dukes has packed on a few pounds.
Further catty observations: Rob, who you pointing at? Is that even a stage move?
All that said: Rob Dukes is, in my opinion, Exodus’ best frontman.
Awesome track of the night: All of them. But especially “Fabulous Disaster.”
Admission of the night: I could give a fuck about “Bonded by Blood.”
One band left, you OK there, pal: I think I gotta go to the hospital.
And finally: Anthrax, from NYC, which everyone keeps reminding me.
Specialty of the night: Anthrax are playing Among the Living in its entirety.
Big impressive moment of the night: Wow, Joey Belladonna sounds a lot better now than he did on that reunion tour all those years ago!
Hot damn: I can’t believe I ever doubted the dude. He’s killing it.
However: I am now reminded that not all of Among the Living is that good.
All that said: WAR DANCE!
End of the night: A blast of fresh air and a straight-up canon being sparked the minute I leave.
What else you got going on?: There are other things?

GWAR loves barbeque so much that they can show off their newly released barbeque sauce at the event. The band said the formula of GWAR-B-Q is “mostly made out of the blood of really hot chicks. It was a terrible waste of fine ass, but ultimately worth it because this sauce is absolutely delicious.”

The event is scheduled for Saturday August 17 in Richmond, VA.

Loaded with monster mosh riffs and airtight thrash gallops crowned with Foresta’s rapid-fire delivery, Iron Reagan deliver a circle-pit soundtrack for the ages. J. BENNETT

The band's debut full-length is set for release on March 26!

Today, Revolver is proud to premiere the debut LP, Worse than Dead, from Richmond, Virginia’s Iron Reagan. Featuring Tony Foresta (vocals) and Phil “LandPhil” Hall (guitar) of Municipal Waste and Paul Burnette (bass) and Ryan Parish of Supression (drums), both also formerly of Darkest Hour, the band will release the album on March 19 via A389 Records and Magic Bullet Records. Check it out below, as well as a track-by-track discussion of standout songs by Foresta, and let us know what you think in the comments.

“Drop the Gun”
TONY FORESTA I’m not one that’s big on attending protests and such but there was some serious bullshit going down last year with Virginia Legislature trying to pass two really insane bills that pretty much denied women in Virginia their reproductive rights. It was pretty crazy. The protest I was at was on the states capitol and had 31 women arrested and carried off to jail during a peaceful protest. One of those police officers that was hog tying and carrying some of these women away was also herself a women. I was pretty shocked that someone could do something like that. Did she even know that these women were standing up for her? So yeah, that’s what that song is about.

“I Predict the Death of Harold Camping”
It seems like the end of the world is supposed to happen every three months or so nowadays. Harold Camping was one of the Christian nut jobs that used his false predictions to cash in on peoples fears. He also predicted that the world was going to end the day after my birthday. That would have been one hell of a hangover for me had it been true.

“Cycle of Violence”
This song’s conceptual premise stemmed from the insanity happening in Syria. It’s about the way in which our human society thrives on the day-in-and-day-out administration of violence upon ourselves and others. It’s a shame that such measures have to be taken by either one person or by a nation of people to defend their human rights or deem their choice of religious practice the utmost truth. For us, it’s fucking scarier that those motives are the driving force behind majority of violent acts because it depressingly puts all of the free thinking world at risk of falling victim to senseless acts of brutality, i.e. 9-11, Syria, etc.

“Eyes Piss Tears”
This song is kind of a fun one about a horrifying experience that happened to Phil and I while we on tour. To make a long story short, we both were woken up to “You guys gotta get the fuck out of here, the cops are coming!” only to realize we were sleeping in the middle of a bizarre crime scene involving an elderly women, her granddaughter, an extremely inebriated crust punk, and a lot of pee pee.

“We Know You’re Hiding”
This song was a blast to write musically. We wanted to put into it as many homages to our roots and influences as we could, so, that’s why we have a breakdown, fast-paced stops, and a rhythmic vocal pattern! Lyrically, it’s about internet trolls and how they spend all of their time fighting their battles behind a keyboard rather than giving positive reinforcement to those bands or people in which they respect.

“Paycheck”
Phil wrote the lyrics to this song. I really like the angle he went with this one. Basically the lyrics are taken from the point of view of a disgruntled video-game henchman. Remember those low level guys from Double Dragon that would get whipped up and beaten every game? Didn’t you ever wonder why someone would submit their lives to do such a thing on a regular basis? What was their story? This song’s is portraying the point of view of a person like that. It’s also a metaphor from where we are today as people in our every day society as a whole.

“Bodies”
This is simple. Women have the right to choose who, what, when, where, why, and how when it comes to their body and mind. Invasive practices on a woman’s reproductive organ is not only inhumane and barbaric, but it’s also downright senseless and grotesque. Live your life, have your beliefs, and adapt your ideological practices into your life the best way you see fit, but in return, harness the human emotion of compassion and let others live and thrive the same way. No old man in a business suit has any right to force any woman on this planet into motherhood. It’s not just Women’s Rights at that point, it’s Human Rights.

“Two Examples”
“How easily misconstrued gun advocacy, gun control, and gun regulation seems to be in this country. It’s a not a matter of trampling your Second Amendment rights, it’s honestly just an easy issue of amending it. To sum it up: Necessity. Think about it. I’m not a God-fearing man but what is the one deadly sin out of the seven that absolutely frowns upon stuffing your face with relentless amounts of food? Gluttony. There’s something to be learned from that. You don’t need an arsenal to keep you safe. Hell, you don’t need semi-automatic weapons and clips that hold thousands of rounds. All you need is the knowledge, the know-how, the respect, and the training needed to fire a simple handgun/rifle safely and effectively. This song doesn’t condemn the rights of gun-holders nor does it condemn the possession of firearms in this country. It’s sole purpose is to make you, the gun consumer, aware that when you conveniently place an order on the internet for weapons that can cause serious damage and destruction with little to no regulation or difficulty, the odds of some nut bag placing that same exact order in any–or your–small-town-America is alarming. Bottom line, those loose stipulations need to be radically challenged and amended. Gun reform can’t wait any longer.

“Snake Chopper”
We like this song a lot because it features guest vocals from our friend Thomas Linburg–At The Gates, Disfear, Skitsystem. This is also your Mom’s favorite song on the album.

“Walking Out”
Am sure the majority of the people reading this have worked at least one shitty job in their life. I can’t even keep track of the amount of awful jobs I’ve worked over the years. I’ve worked jobs from dishwashing at a hippie bar, mowing lawn to even working as a shoe salesman at Sears. I’ve pretty much done whatever it takes at wherever I could to get by. Working at such places sets you up for a lot of abuse from a lot of people way more ignorant than you. This song is about the satisfaction you get from realizing you would rather go broke for another month then take any more of their shit. Walking out and leaving them stranded with your workload is a great feeling sometimes.

The band will be packing a special treat for fans, as they plan to perform their classic 1987 album Among the Living in its entirety.

“Holy crap am I so excited about this year’s Metal Alliance Tour,” said Scott Ian. “It’s been a great year and a half for us since Worship Music came out and to cap it off with a Grammy nomination. This is such a perfect lineup. To make this tour even more special, we will be playing our Among The Living record in its entirety. I can’t wait to play “Horror Of It All”! Come on out and worship with us my friends. You do not want to miss this.”

Rounding out the lineup for the festival’s third incarnation will be fellow thrash legends Exodus, along with Virginia’s Municipal Waste and California’s Holy Grail.

Tickets go on sale January 11. Dates are set to be announced soon.

Here, Dave Brockie a.k.a. Oderus Urungus (pictured left), vocalist of GWAR, selects his faves.

5. Cancer Bats, Dead Set on Living
“We had the pleasure of touring with these Canucks and I liked them so much that I actually got their album. Dirty stoner hatred for angry people, the Bats deliver a solid thrust.”

4. The Cory Smoot Experiment, When Worlds Collide
“Cory Smoot, a.k.a. Flattus Maximus, was an incredible musician, and another metal legend we lost much too young. The final act from the man behind the mask is a dark and brooding metal masterpiece.”

3. Municipal Waste, The Fatal Feast
“The Waste’s Nuclear Blast debut never disappoints as the world’s new Ramones (hopefully without the cancer) continue their reign of fun.”

2. Lamb of God, Resolution
“Resolution is what this band has displayed over their long career in metal, and they continue deliver goods of the highest level. Best of luck, Randy!”

1. Pig Destroyer, Book Burner
“The rise of the Pig continues with this savage return to the primal. Unrelentingly fast, conceptually acute, this record is simply mind-blowing.”

Over the weekend the R&B star (pictured left) was seen wearing a leather-studded jacket with patches of hardcore and metal bands like Municipal Waste, D.R.I., Suicidal Tendencies, and Cro-Mags on it.

Municipal Waste tweeted, “For the record. Chris Brown can sport our shit all he wants. We still think he is a fucking moron.”

Brown is no stranger to controversy. In 2009, Brown was charged with felony assault against his then-girlfriend and singer Rihanna.

So does he really like Municipal Waste or is the jacket just the newest accessory to giant gold chains? Check out the pictures below.
